I really don't understand why people are bagging on this game so much. Sure, it's not particularly innovative, but I will be damned if it isn't fun.
I think the main problem with Wildstar is it basically proposes the same features than WoW (raiding, arenas, BGs, etc) with inferior combat gameplay. The only feature (warplots) which would stand is in fact a glorified Alterac with instanced plugs? laDungeon Keeper, kind of. Wildstar's combat gameplay isn't awful, it just lacks depth and feels kind of boring once you've figured the whole Telegraph casting -> Interrupt -> Burst momentum pattern. Limiting skills in actionbar doesn't help in the depth department of course.

This being said, the game is still in beta right now therefore combat gameplay could improve greatly before release. But when some people say "WoW in space" they're in fact not very far from the truth. I have no problem with WoW and I think it's a great game, but right now Wildstar is WoW's retarted MMO kid. It's like if you own an old car and you go buy the same model, but new. Once the fresh smell wears off, it's still the same car.

There are 3 things in particular where the decisions they're making are so obviously bad ideas that they will be repealed in the 1st live patch that they do. It's not that they lack experience... you can see that these guys have, if not played them, at least done substantial research of every MMO in the past 10 years. It shows and on the whole it is a solidly good thing. But there's a couple of things where... someone is just being petulant.

You won't notice them until you really start examining how grouping works in their game. And then once you do notice you just can't believe that's intentional. But it has to be.

I'm bummed out I'm only in for the stress test, but very happy to at least be able to get to play the game. I feel like with just a weekend, I won't get to really group up much, and that's what I like most about MMO's is the grouping, and completing stuff with friends/guild.

Will download the game tonight, along with the masses, and see if I can't get in to have some fun.

Whelp, so far I really like the game. Graphics and art are great, and it does so many things well. I haven't done any grouping (only a lvl 4 gunslinger / warrior or w/e my class is), and see how they need to clean up a few things, but I didn't have expectations going in that this game was going to shake up the MMO world. I haven't played a theme-park MMO in a while, and could definetely see myself purchasing this.

I'm trying to think what you are talking about. Maybe I should group more(which I should be doing for the social pts anyway). Will see if I can spot what you are talking about when it comes to grouping as I try to get to the 50 cap when I have time to play.

Spring is all they are saying. I would say may/june if I had to guess. Gives them 3-4 months of people testing 36+ content, raids and warplots, plus more polish.

Im telling you guys, its the entire quest based leveling model. There is only so much of this shit you can take in several games before it just becomes drab, no matter how good the story or whatever. Its simply played out by now and just flat out boring.
Blade and soul is nothing but on rails quests, and I cant put this game down because of the combat, its not that its been done over and over again, the combat just fucking sucks, its not interesting its not fun.

So are you somehow playing the Korean version ala Archeage? Are you using the same method to play it? Is it all in Korean too?

NM read the B&S thread like a big boy and figured it out.

Probably the CH version since its f2p and pretty easy to setup and yes the vast majority of it is still in Chinese even with English patch.

The combat is fun and I would say its better then Wildstar's combat, but neither are bad and both are fun. Also I find Wildstar has all the stuff to keep me around outside of combat on top of it, whereas B&S just has combat going for it(like Tera).

Also to your edit, I play Medic and yes I like it.

I've only tried like 3-4 times all day, but each time no servers available. Anyone else had better luck?

I've no joke seen like 8-10 different errors trying to connect. If I was looking forward to this I'd be pissed.

The thing I am noticing is I have no idea what I'm doing or who is sending me on my quests, I just run around and kill everything and click on everything and my quests get done. I never see any quest text when I interact and the npc dialogue is transparent and hard to see. Also the town areas are busy and overcrowded with pointless npcs. I'm having fun for the most part but I've never been this disconnected from quests in 8 years of playing wow, a game where I definitely don't give a shit about quests. Feels weird.

I can't decide if the quest arrow is helpful or hand holding. It's nice but feels like it completely cripples any sense of exploring. The crowds are pretty crazy and thick but I don't find them annoying. That starting area is like baggage pickup at the airport, it's going to be crowded. I haven't been beyond there yet so I don't know if it thins out. So far this is a mad "grab x and return" quests type MMO. I can see a large number of WoW fans falling all over it, especially if they were looking for a similar game with a sci-fi twist.

And fuck if you meet those two requirements AND your favorite movie is Disney's "Hercules" you will never play another game again.

At least in the last few expansions there was an over arching quest goal that all the quests at a hub added up to and i was aware of that, hear I'm all over the place with different people without any text to give flavor or meaning to the deaths of the hapless creatures I encounter.

I will say that receiving a blue rifle as an engineer with a quest attached to the item that then buffs the item with a bleed when completed was pretty nifty and I look forward to more of that later.

Initial shit is always going to be training and tutorials masquerading as quests, they aren't usually going to tie into a larger quest arch. That said, their does seem to be a "training quest" arch going on, so I have to assume they will be common place later and actually tie into a larger story.

I do like the interface, I really like when they start out a little more simple and get more busy with more options as the game progresses. I know in WoW if I play an alt I'll disable 90% of my add-ons, they're just pointless in the beginning.

I am going to have to start over this beta. From the last beta I was in, I logged into today to existing characters in the middle of a number of things, totally confused re: the interface/abilities/etc. The art style is so totally WOW though, both good and bad from that.

There's one big difference between this game and most current MMOs. Almost every "area"(not always entire zone in otherwords) has its own story arc. So you may do a zone that has 3-4 arcs in it or sometimes 1 that covers that entire zone. I've yet to see one that covers multiple zones.

Also quest text appears in almost a chat bubble(which has opacity) over the NPC when you talk to them, not in a dedicated window(and the chat bubble goes away on its own, the player doesn't close it). If you miss it, you can read it via the quest log, and a portion of them are VO'd.

But yeah the big hubs can be crowded because everything is there, trainer kiosk, tradeskill NPCs/Machines, Path objectives, multiple vendors , quest NPCs and then just "Dressing" npcs. Doesn't help there are a lot of machines, tech and props everywhere.
