I think you missed his point. Wildstar is unofficially F2P for its most loyal players because it is simple for them to acquire enough plat thru playing the game to purchase a CREDD from someone. In other subscription based games, your loyal players are a constant source of monthly revenue. In Wildstar Carbine won't be getting much, if any, revenue from them.
yeah. standard F2P works like the whale or tentpole system. Like used by movies, casino's, etc.
now, casino's DO give out crazy free shit to their whales in an attempt to draw them from other casino's. But thats effectively elder teir shit. not free subs. ok, granted would be free subs too..
But in mmo's the free sub is the barrier for entry.
Imagine a Casino with a 20$ entrance fee. HEEEEEELLLL, no. There might be higher clubs in the casino with members fees, where in, again the whales totally get that fee waived. but your standard player does not pay any fees.
In fact, they get free or $3 breakfast buffets, they get cheap drinks, cheap/free entertainment, etc.
The casino does not give a fuck if you walk in, play $5, and then get free concert tickets, and meals and shit. The guy dropping $4 million pays for everyone.
F2p games do the same thing, usually. The "hardcore" guy off the SUB, is now spending $100/month.. or possibly more. Meanwhile the casual people are playing for free.
So, I don't understand the CREDD system. Who is buying it? The cost of CREDD is pretty cheap ingame plat for the time, for any invested player. I have no idea who the hell is paying $20 for 7 plat...
And then, why is it designed to remove the barrier of entry to the game, solely for those most invested in it already? what sense is that from a business point of view?
