Yeah, if you need a macro keyboard to make the combat tolerable, the combat is starting off as a failure.

This game is about movement, dodging, positioning and aiming. Trying to do that operating WASD and then using a finger to spam 1 all the time is retarded.
I don't think because terrible hacks play the Wildstar hands-on demo like awful newbs, everyone needs to play like them. Also where does the " mandatory spam 1 gameplay" come from ?

If you like collecting 3 of these and killing 6 of those and while killing 6 of those you get another quest for killing 6 of the same all while spamming the 1 key about 70% of the time then all the more power to you. Frankly, there are better things coming from other games.
Like what?

Anything spammable while moving I'd bind to mouse buttons instead. Problem (somewhat) solved.

On my mage in WoW I had scorch on mouse4 so I could use it while moving without needing a third arm to hit the 7 key while I was ESDFing it.

But yeah, the more "actiony" they keep trying to make these games, the bigger a problem this becomes. All of these MMOs are going in the wrong direction.

Granted I've only played spellslinger so far, but the combat feels ok, a bit too spammy for my liking but I can tolerate it atm. Nothing really exciting about the game though yet, more of the same ! ? style questing.

You guys need to rock the G13!
I can't tell if you're being serious or trying to antagonize the fanboys.

Considering I was beginning to think you were a fanboy, I'll have to go with the former.

I have a G13 and any game that "forces" players to use it to be competitive is a bad game. Is this even debatable?

I was being serious. That shit is an awesome piece of equipment.

Anyway, the game doesn't force you to use it to be competitive at all, but I can't play MMOs with WASD anymore because of it.

I'm in the same boat. Although I actually prefer my original Nostromo n52 (not the stupid Razer second edition..).

With the n52, or a G13 I was able to AFK level in WOW in a couple areas where mobs were on a fixed movement pattern. So I could stand in one spot with a repeating macro.. easy peasy lemon squeezy

I compare using a G13 instead of a keyboard to play a MMO as the difference between using mouse and keyboard to play a FPS as compared to a controller. One is far superior but not required.

You trying to summon the neckbeards?
I don't know if he is but I am sure I will end up doing so. I can't count the number of times I would put a group member on follow and go cook dinner during a raid with my daughter pressing 1 2 3 over and over and with Torrid parsing the fights she would still end up on top of the damage list. Try sticking a 3 year old in a raid setting in WOW and see how well she does.

I agree it is an awesome piece of equipment but I refuse to pay so much for one, especially since when the N52 launched it was 15 fucking dollars.

Even when I raided in WoW I spammed my sinister striker constantly. So this is a non issue for me. I don't see how it's so hard to keep pressing 1 to build up your x powers then press the ability 2-6 you want.

Guess it depended on what class you played in GW2, because there were plenty of skills for classes that you would use in certain situations and not hit them just because they were off cooldown.
Oh, there are such. But, out of 9 non-autoattack skills, I think I had one weapon-based skill that was situational and the healing skill was of course situational. But, for the standard skills, you either loaded a situational skill that you never used, or a damage skill that was mashed on every cooldown. Almost a non-choice.

The worst offender was my hunter-class (can't even remember what the name... ranger?). I had the jump-back situational and heal, and the rest was "launch all pets when they go off cooldown" and "use damage when it comes off cooldown". I tried necro during beta, and it was close to the same. Guardian? Mash attacks.

I personally don't find white damage fun where the game basically hits for me.
I think that's a fundamental difference in gaming styles/expectations. I'm a strategist, I like turn-based strategy, meaningful decisions and choice-dependent outcomes. You sound like an consolist: you need activity, the faster the better. The problem is that the two are divergent: the more and faster action you propose, the less strategic it can be since you need to operate more and more on automatism/reflexes because your higher brain functions can't occur at the speed required.

Same for me when I dig a hole IRL, I usually spam shovel strikes to build my rage and when I'm full I release my anger by scratching the ground with my hands, feet or whatever. I guess your logic applies for everything.

Auto attack shouldn't be 1.
It should be mouse 1.
Particularly if its going to be click to attack and not press once and afk.

I mean, you just described Diablo/PoE/Torchlight.
But in these, its spam mouse1 or mouse 2 all the time. not 1. granted. click to move as well.
then again, movement, dodging, positioning, and aiming. hey thats every FPS ever as well. And again, mouse 1 for your basic attack.

Definitely one of the things GW2 did fuck up. you couldn't even remap that shit iirc.

That's probably the worse use of a metaphor I've ever seen to disagree with an opinion.

I have a macro keyboard and have no fucking clue what to do with the macros. I just can't see a big use for these macros in most games. Can you explain how I would use one in a game like WoW to my advantage?

It essentially can automate your entire rotation, and if you put it on repeat, it can actually automate an entire raid encounter. Record it via the MR key, then put it on nonstop and voila.

It's not superior to doing things manually, but it's immensely useful. My G15 version one is still going strong a good 10 years after I bought it, too.

Plus, it's just damn useful. If you have 3 or 4 oh shit buttons, you can map them to one of your G keys and just hit that when in trouble instead of having to push the actual buttons which takes far more time. You just go in and edit out the delay so instead of the 1/2 to 1 second per push, you can spam them all at the same time which is very useful if they are not on a global timer.

I can't imagine playing any MMO without some sort of macro keyboard or n52. I think it's the only reason I don't have carpal tunnel. You can easily use it with GW2 or Diablo 3 and customize it. I even use my G15 with my controller as I have things mapped to the controller keys via GlovePIE then Macro those same keys to repeat via my G keys so I end up not having to spam so many buttons.

I never understood macro rotations doesn't that take all the fun out of actually playing the game? To each their own but just sitting there press one button would get old real quick for me. I know essentially all I'm doing is pressing the same 6 buttons but still...
