its not about giving a shit about the story, its learning enough about it even when you dont give a shit about it that you still have a connection to whats going on. i can tell you the basics of the story from just about any mmo ive played in the last 5 years even though i rushed to max level in every one. as for naming a better mmo, wildstar is still only level 36 max. this exercise is pointless.

MMOs are never big on twitch, they just arnt a lot of fun to watch someone else play. The viewers that do exist for mmos tend to follow a single streamer as he goes from mmo to mmo. Thats why when Towelliee streams, wildstar will have 3k viewers but has none when hes not. If they invited more big streamers, maybe they would be able to equalize that a bit but they invited smaller folks like zyback or whatever his name is and pocket.
If they were smart, they'd invite the bigger ones closer to release. Right now it'd be kind of pointless.

brand new IP cant explain the shitty storytelling. Plenty of examples of games out there with brand new IPs who did much better jobs than Wildstar.
While I agree the questing is pretty detached, it really is just an xp injection layered over grinding (which for me is great honestly, I never read quests anyway.. not in any game) I don't agree that it is alone in that. Most games, aside from TOR, are very detached from their questing in this regard and based on how WOTLK played out (people stuck in different instances of the world from each other etc), frankly I think that is not an all bad thing.

All in all, as I have said before, the combat is amazing fun, it is the first game I could see myself just leveling to the cap grinding since EQ.

Yeah, I've been having steadily more fun as I've progressed, I really like this game. Quests have gotten a bit better too. Also, they do have the tech in the game for phasing/public quests etc. so I think it's just a matter of building on this.

This game would lend itself really well to large public dungeons like AC, Ragnarok, etc. but alas, those things weren't in WoW

they really really need to stop letting these fucking idiots stream their game, they need to look at the lvl 36 players and grant them access to stream, get some DnT members to stream something, this is fucking awful and is killing this games hype.

Nobody watches unknowns. People goes to names known and then the general viewers flock to the highest viewed stream so that's where give them. Skill level doesn't matter when its not competitive play. People say Toweliee sucks, but he gets 8k+ ppl watching his shit every time he streams. Why would they give it to some no-name who gets 5-10 ppl watching his stream instead of those numbers?

well i mean, would you watch towliee? or a member of a top tier guild that is active in current mmos? ive never seen towliee play, but even the biggest idiot can attract viewers through WoW isnt that what he mostly streams? i mean if the majority of WoW players are anything like my little cousin, and i know they are towliee is like a god to them, and to us hes awful.

its an all around thing, these people right now are probably the current mouth breathers in other mmos we hate out here giving the only in game advertisement out there, at least get some people who know what the fuck they are talking about, i was on towliees stream watching him play medic, he was telling his chat he was healing.... spec he had 1 utility skill on his bar, shield charge shit like that is awful, just actually having someone who knows what the fuck is going on and actually understands the game, someone over lvl 15.

You realize its just 1-15? Just to get people to see the very beginning of the game. It's not a raid, its not competitive pvp, its not a Q&A session. Taking it far too seriously. I'm shocked its even happening considering the game still has 4-6 months to go before its released.

Also, need to make sure that the people on the stream are not badmouthing the game. Imagine some old poopsocker from an Uberguild get access and a promoted stream on twitch. He then proceeds to spend 3 hours really digging into the game, including mentioning all the similarities with other games and accurate descriptions of what works/does not work. That might be better for the average gamer, but might not be so for the company of the game.

Letting completely unknown people twitch their game, would also make them able to break NDA and badmouth the game without any penalty (regular streamers on twitch might be inclined to be nice in order to get future business). IE MANvsGAME did a long twitch stream on some failed mmo, Firesomething. It sucked, he did not like it much, spoke little to nothing of the game after the stream, but raved on it before and during. That is what the companies want. Not someone who details their gameplay and plays it to perfection, but rather someone popular to rant and rave over it. It's far more likely that in the future, EQN Landmark will feature streams featuring Pewdiepie than any of the old EQ regulars on this or any other forum.

Are there any beta key opportunities available somewhere? Would love to check this out over the holiday.

They announced there might be very small waves of invites over the holidays from the operations staff, but everyone else is going home.

Looks like they're handing out up to 3 extra friend keys in Mid January, should see a whole lot of extra people in beta at that point.

Expressed in simpler words, "we haven't dropped the NDA; we've merely hired for free a number of marketers for our game".

This is great and helps show a little more depth than just the 'button spamming' people are thinking will happen for the entirety of the game.
How so? An extremely large amount of the AMPs are entirely passives. Do more damage, take less damage, do more damage when X, does X damage when Y and so on. None of these have any effect on the way you play, they're simply +good and +gooder and even in some cases +gooderer passives. Some of them unlock specific abilities, abilities that are standard abilities and follow the same rules as usual. There's a few actual procs that change the combat dynamically, but they're very rare. As for abilities, most of them are extremely standard stuff too. There might be more movement abilities than say wow, but in general the game is more dynamic movement wise so it makes sense, and by limiting the action bar you can afford to give those to every class since not every class will be able to use them without giving up something important.

Sure there's a lot of customization, but a lot of it is simply number tweaking. That said combined with items customization, there's a fairly solid amount overall and the combat isn't class mechanics only, it always has the positional requirements from the action-y combat to take into account. Doing your rotation on a dummy and doing your rotation while dodging telegraphs isn't quite the same and makes it quite a bit more interesting.
