Additional annoyance I've run into... Open start menu, type any search. Delete your search, note you are not back on the application list nor is there anyway to go back. Get f'd Microsoft.
My power supply died so I can't boot into Windows but... are you sure you can't just hit escape? Instead of deleting the entire search?

Closes the search, yes, but doesn't bring the Start menu back up.

That would explain why I booted up one morning last week and GeForce Experience was just not there anymore. Had to download and reinstall it again.

Do NOT like the fact that Microsoft is taking away control over updates. Also the fact they stated they will straight out break your update capability if you try and mod control back somehow.
I was wondering about that. I installed Windows 10 Enterprise and could not find a way to set the update to manual checking.

I dunno...I kinda prefer Windows 8 over 10 at this point. I thought I would like the UI more, but I'm finding it even more annoying than I did with 8.

Lack of control over Windows Update has been my biggest annoyance with 10 so far. Having no way to stop it from downloading updates on my Surface when I'm at work has actually forced me to stop watching Netflix and do my job more than once.

Certainly I'm not the only one that has had updates break my system? I usually do a full wipe and reload every few months. I update the system to the latest atthatpoint in time, but then don't bother updating afterwards.

I have never had an update break my system except one time I had OS X/Win 10 dual booting off the same drive. Remedied the setup and smooth sailing ever since.

I've never had it break my system either but it was certainly annoying it wiped out GeForce Experience without even letting me know

Never had one break my system so far but there are legitimate reasons to want to downgrade certain third party drivers, like video card drivers that are pushed through Windows Update, that may be causing issues. I still don't know the extent of how forceful Win10 will be about this. Can I uninstall and reinstall an older Nvidia driver without Windows pitching a fit? That tool Vvoid linked should allow that but by hiding a tool like that deep on their web site MS is making it so those not in the know will likely have a very hard time doing something like a simple downgrade. It's throwing power users under the bus so MS can protect the stupid people.

More upsetting to me is how Microsoft threatened disabling all security patches for your computer if you did wrest control over updates back. There's no reason I can see for making such a spiteful claim towards users.

The only real fix is to install WSUS and control your update channels yourself, and that's a ridiculous amount of overhead for 99% of their customers. That said, yes, you can install an older driver, Skanda (or you could during tech preview, anyway). I installed an older version of the nVidia driver during the early tech preview days (the autoinstalled version wouldn't do nVidia Surround 1x3 properly) and it didn't reinstall the "Windows 10" version until I updated builds. Rinse and repeat after every fresh build, though.

Interestingly enough, you don't appear to need to keep UAC on for the Start Menu / Search / etc. to work at this point. During tech preview, UAC had to be on or none of that would work. I've turned UAC off completely in my Domain policy and Windows isn't borking the Start Menu anymore, so either it hasn't happened yet or that decision was overturned at some point and I missed it.

So lets say I upgrade to beta drivers or downgrade to older ones for whatever reason. Will windows update just decide to over write that and install whatever 6 month old shit they have as current on my machine? Will it remove Nvidia experience and all my presets without telling me?

I have had it randomly downgrade my drivers from a new version to an older version, but that was in the early days of TP. I don't think I've seen that since then.

That said, if they are forcing all driver updates, ugh. I will remove them from my WSUS and that won't ever happen to me, but most people will be screwed hard by that, I bet.

The closest I've had to the preview breaking the system was some Surface firmware update specific issues and 1 fucked up upgrade to a newer build that was fixed by doing the upgrade again.
