I'm gonna have to set up a remote desktop to begin the queue process while I'm at work if I ever want to play on Whitemane.

Oh yeah copying wow to make the new best mmo, what a novel idea, it's surprising dozens of mmos haven't tried this 5-10years ago I'm sure they'd have been very successful and not turned F2P 6-12months later or closed entirely.

So Blizzard did this the wrong way, what's the right way? Let's assume they can't accurately predict demand since I think that's unreasonable. There are people in this very thread that likely have been unsubbed for years but only became interested in the month leading up to release.

The only thing I can think of is guarantee low population realms will be semi-aggressively merged to maintain a near-full capacity.

Instead of new severs they should have been able to spin up new layers per server to handle the extra people. Instead of 5 they could have easily had 10 or even 15 more layers per server in the short term.

I know it's just what classic is and I don't have time to play it anymore, but I played on a private server a few years ago and got up to like level 35 or so and went to try to do some SM runs... 4 hours later, due to idiots... nothing really had been done, and I couldn't get up from the chair for even 5 minutes. This is not a wife/kids friendly endeavor.

I guess I could play at night/weekends only but I prefer having sex and exercising and sleep.

Too old I guess.

I mean they didn't have to open 50 servers day one, but any reasonable person could see they needed more than their initial shit offering for name reservations. That is where they fucked themselves in the butt.

And when too many people stick around come layer removing time?

Also one time I sat down and figured out how much a Scholomance run would cost me in opportunity spent if I billed hours instead .....

Yea, fuck me

I love WoW classic though and may sub just for nostalgia

Same boat. I’m going to try to roll a lock on whitemane but at this rate I’ll see people in November.

The same could be said for any hobby you might do instead of working though.

Not trying to convince you though, just giving you some shit.

What would make people lose their shit more? 8 hour queues or adding retail phasing for the first month of classic?

Oh absolutely... but WoW classic results in an inordinate amount of completely wasted useless time/frustration... as opposed to like going to play basketball or cycling or something. You never go exercise and then just sit there and can't with your thumb up your ass.

But I'd love to be able to play casually 1-2 days a week like on a saturday or something.. but yea like the guy above I'll be level 60 in about 4 months and geared in blues in another year... lol

1. They didn't have enough servers ready to go with the name reservation. Lots of people made plans based on that list and are somewhat priced in to stick it out.
2. They decided not to fully utilize their layering technology and thus the servers are not at their actual maximum capacity. They needed to keep all their layering details fuzzy rather than declare they were removing them in phase two.

Those are two very reasonable things they could have done and chose not to.
