Didn't ganking used to mean many players ganging up to kill a single player?
When we finished raiding early in vanilla (most nights besides progression), our guild would post up groups of 1 healer, 1 warlock, and two others in leveling zones (usually STV and Plaguelands, but others too depending on what raid was out/which areas had the most people via /who). Whichever group got 2x 60s to show up first, we'd summon in the group at the slowest area to really be a pain in the ass, and then the other groups/anyone online as more 60s showed up. Would hang around for hours doing this. Had a few people with multiple accounts who would add the people we were killing to friends and/or message them. Had tons of people give up and log off for the night. Assuming WoW Classic isn't a total shitbag, we'll do the same thing, was always the highlight of farm raiding - people on the bench/sitting out would be scouting places out and letting us know on vent, and people were leveling warlocks to 20 (might have been 40 for summon? can't remember) to keep camped at the spots.
When I was doing my high warlord grind on my undead rogue Word I would have an alliance character logged in on my 2nd pc.
His name was Hordeflag.
If anyone on Alliance side touched my flag in WSG they would get a message telling them "HEY! Put me back!"
When they died I'd bitch them out for getting blood on me. Or just mock them for getting gutted and generally being bad. Used to just roleplay harass people for hours on that toon while waiting to ambush people trying to get the flag. The honor system grind was no joke.
Met some wonderful folks from those conversations that made the future battleground fights even more entertaining. Ended up rerolling as a night elf hunter to play with a bunch of the people I was normally killing.
The best thing on a RP PVE Server was when you had a group from the other faction that insisted that to be true to character they would Role Play flagged. They would cry when they were repeatedly ganked. We had some drama on either Rexxar or Silver Moon when we rekted shop on some Wedding at Uther's Tomb.
and you just loved how another horde player took the node while you killed the alliance guy, right?I like the option of killing the alliance douche that ran up to take my node while I was clearing the mobs guarding it.
I'm unsure of the etymology for the term "gank" but I always thought it referred to killing someone in any asymmetrical manner.

Nope but its not FFA PvP so not much I can do about that.and you just loved how another horde player took the node while you killed the alliance guy, right?
Did the same with polymorph.Man on ED I remember only ganking 60s unless people were complaining about someone specific killing them while leveling. I didn’t play a pvp server on live. That being said i DEFINITELY did stun people from stealth on ED and then vanish away just so they’d shit themselves thinking they were done for and then id just leave. I also really only farmed fire waters once I was 60.
Is it settled whether foh is rolling alliance or horde?
IMO a gank is when the outcome of the fight is clear right from the start.
Alliance for me most likely. My lady is down to play this and as is typical, only wants to pay the pretty races.
Be a nice change I suppose. Maybe I'll suffer through paladin leveling so I can do Gay paladin shit. #triggered
