Blizzard joins SP 500 stock market index | Massively Overpowered

If it wasn't clear before now, Blizzard's debut on a stock index further goes to show that the game studio is one of the big boys.

Today, the World of Warcraft developer joined the S&P 500 stock market index, replacing Pall Corp in the process. CEO Robert Kotick praised the move, saying, "We believe we are well-positioned for long-term growth, and we look forward to continuing to deliver value to our audiences and investors."

Despite WoW's subscription losses, Blizzard posted a healthy $1.04 billion net revenue in the second quarter of 2015.

I'm willing to bet that collectively microtransactions for their other games are going to beat out WoWs profit within 2 years, especially with Overwatch coming as well. Hearthstone is not only always in the top 5 (usually top 3) games being streamed and watched, it is now a mobile game where you can just as easily use your moms credit card to get some card packs.

WoW can decline all it wants, it will probably hurt blizzard a bit but.. not really. Can't wait for 25$ skins in OW

WoW decline is inevitable because it is almost an 11 year old game. The fact it still has as many subs as it does is an impressive feat.

It definitely is impressive considering most MMOs don't really make it past the 2 year mark. It's kinda wild to think about really.

I resubbed to this. I don't know why, but I did.

Just casually doing jungle for now on a couple characters. Not too much to do for flying. I have 4 treasures, a couple quest lines and some faction.

Yup they are used their success in wow to bootstrap other game lines now so they are not dependent on one major line of income and a few minor ones. They now have a few really large lines of income and more coming. Hearthstone is making a pretty absurd amount of money for what likely is a ton less work/cost development wise than a wow expansion.

I hear LFR Archimonde is an awesome time.
HAHAH it is a thing for sure. Curious if this week goes any smoother now people have some idea whats going on. I still think just wiping 3 or 4 times fast is currently the best plan for taking him because unless they cut the health on some of the stuff a bit pugs just don't do the damage to blow through it until min 4 stacks of determination.

They tweeted that they are nerfing a few things about the encounter, so it will go smoother pretty soon regardless.

I don't mind challenging a lot of the pandarian ones wound up with 3-4 wipes pretty frequently but the current tuning was to high. You needed about 4 stacks to start really making any real dent into the encounter. It should be hard but they aimed a bit to high.

Well at least Archimondedrops good loot in LFR..... er I mean at least youneed to kill him for the legendary ring.... er well at least itgives players a satisfying conclusion to the storyline of WoD....

Goddammit some days it's hard to be a Blizzard fanboy.

I played WoD at launch for about 3 weeks, and as someone who no longer has the ability to do raid commitments (I have the playtime, just not able to schedule stuff really), LFR is really my only option. The slow ass delayed release schedule for raid wings hitting LFR made me say "fuck it" and cancel my sub, but I had all the legendary ring steps up to that point complete.

That said - about how many weeks does it look like to finish up the ring? I did the cape late in MoP, and I assume the ring follows the same pattern of "artificial time gates"?

HAHA yes it would be one thing if he dropped loot on order of what the pandaria LFR did for look/quality. But he drops weapons of worse ilevel than what you can get out in open tannan area for grinding dailies and some trinkets and a set piece of lack luster appearance.
