It was Phaz wasn't it? He's pretty damn good at catching people with really obvious trolls.
It is not in my top five worst, but its honorable mention. Remember my criteria was movies with a lot of good talent that just suck. That said Nothing But Trouble probably belongs on my list too, somewhere. But Pacific Rim had all the stuff on paper to be a good movie. Great director/writer, great cast, big budget, and monsters fighting giant robots. And yet somehow it ended up being shit.
My three observations about Pacific Rim Job at the time:
1- Movie is so boring I found myself looking forward to the Charlie Day / Ron Perlman parts. Every robot and monster scene it was dark and raining. Bonus points for mexican Orville Redenbacker somehow being a thing in this movie.
2- If you did the math, the core love story was between a guy in his 30s and an underage jap girl. Tons of just ridiculous shit like this (The Wall encompassing all coast lines on the planet somehow being cheaper to build and maintain than robots, the cargo copters carrying a mech with cables in a straight line that demonstrated not even a passing resemblance to actual physics) that even made for Sci-Fi movies avoid. I am fine with some escapism, but jfc.
3- When the nuke went off under water and magically created air (would have been actually scalding water vapor) and the fish just flopped around like this was normal, I scoffed out loud in the theatre. My wife turned to me and said "That was the thing that finally broke your suspension of disbelief?" , which pretty much summed up the entire experience.
So, no not a troll.
PS- I am kind of with you on the Jeremy Irons thing. I will watch a bad movie with him in it just to watch the man work, kind of like Tim Curry or Gary Oldman.
