I didn't see a thread about this and wondered if anyone had tried it.

Project-Ascension: Classless Realms

It's a timelocked server currently in Vanilla. The gimmick is you allocate your own stats and pick your own abilities/talents as you level. A few friends and I started up last night on the Andorhal Realm and it was pretty fun playing around with different ability combos (you get free respecs until level 10).

I have no idea what the population is like or support, however.

Its a great concept but god damn all their different systems are a bit overwhelming at the start lol

Getting started on this tonight.

Conquest of Azeroth with 21 Homebrew classes interests me more though.

Got to level 20. Its very overwhelming but at least the game respects your time. You don't have a bunch of shit just tacked on to the baseline Classic experience. Everything is faster and generally easier. I like the Ascension Points system where playing the game gives you the game currency you can later translate into Shop currency for their various convenience items.

I just selected a class combo that looked cool. Its wild to play a "warrior" but also be throwing lightning bolts and whatnot. Really refreshing. Don't want to pay for Conquest of Azeroth but I will be playing that the moment it comes out.

Been playing on the PTR of Conquest of Azeroth. Runemaster is a lot of fun. It's like a better version of rogue with very intentional support abilities that make it more worthwhile in groups. Going to try the Primalist next. BoozeCube BoozeCube This may interest you. Srs.

I spent some time playing and got a few classes into the teens on Conquest of Azeroth. I have not yet played a class that wasn't fleshed out. They have 21 of these classes and each has 3 to 4 specs. They ripped off the retail wow big talent tree thing which I actually like a lot more than the OG talent trees. Dungeon difficulty has been adjusted to deal with this madness and it works out somehow. Itemization has changed to support the classes and their stats.

Raids and dungeons have Mythic+ and multiple difficulties of their own design so you're never really stomping everything. Ascension has TONS of challenges and game modes that keep it fresh. If Blizzard stole 1/5 of any of this it would improve their game immensely.

  • Runemaster
    • Offshoot of traditional mage but with mage stealth and burst damage 2 hander spec. Hard to play for me as the runes need to be used in conjunction in various ways. Really cool idea though.
    • Need to try the ranged version that is closer to traditional mage so I avoided it previously.
    • 2 hander version too hard for me being old and dumb.
  • Primalist
    • Not really a shaman but thats the closest OG class.
    • Playing as a tank that is thematically similar to the Dwarf hero from Warcraft 3. Earthquakes and dual wielding axes. Really cool. Suffered a lot from the OG warrior issues of just not being able to survive much in the early levels.
    • Can also be a beastmaster like melee hunter with pet if you so desired.
  • Bloodmage
    • I like this one the most. You are a mage but use your health as mana. You also generate RAGE to be used on certain abilities. Pops off starting at level 10 when you get Vampire Fang and can regen health like mad while burning it just as fast. Exciting playstyle.
    • Can be healer or a werewolf tank. I am playing the caster DPS version for now.
Going to try these next:
  • Necromancer
  • Knight of Xorgoth - Demonic hellfire platewearer.
  • Venomancer -> Druid of the Fang themed class that changes into spiders and shit.

Interestingly, while their game has no faction based class restrictions Alliance has almost zero Venomancers or Knights of Xorgoth. Similarly, the Horde has almost zero Starcallers (gay ass Night Elf moonbows). Certain other classes like Templar are rarer on Horde while more common on Alliance. Same with Barbarians. But Horde has more Sun Clerics.

Really enjoying the variety here as they do play very very differently. Just a fresh experience all around.
