I think that's one of the most complained about design decisions in the game. Wasn't surprised at the multiple mods that came out to address it. It's even worse with LW2 running - 8 rounds to hack a computer with 5 3+ mob pods between you and the computer. Hah!

Fixed. AI got dumber with each iteration in the series (and less controllable). One of the level designs that always stuck with me was the FF7 over world / under world / dungeon subtly sectioning based off transportation methods unlocked at different points in the game.

I'd say having you teleport the boss on my head while I was low hp and finishing off the two adds was a good point to take a breather from our original play through.
