    Malazan Book Of The Fallen

If it helps, I believe that Midnight Tides is the last book that introduces an entirely new storyline to the mix. Everything after that point is about moving the existing threads forward and bringing them together. So you are at least at the limit for how many story threads you have to juggle.

Yakuza Ishin was a bit of a shock. May have to pick that up.

Weird choice to add a couple extra randos in there. Hopefully they'll have the presence of mind to have most of the playtime devoted to Cap and Panther. But hey, if Amy "Legacy of Kain" Hennig wants to make a Marvel game, I'm not going to turn my nose up at it.

Honestly, I just want them to end Assassin's Creed and replace it with historical open-world games that don't feel the need to be linked together. I'm tired of every game being about Assassins fighting Templars, and the gameplay always being based around parkour and stealth kills. I just want to...

    Guild Wars 2

For the most part, expansions are purely level 80 content, so assuming that you don't want to just skip leveling with a level 80 boost (which each of the expansions will give you for free), you can wait on buying them. The only wrinkle to that is a a recent change they made to acquiring mounts...

    Guild Wars 2

incidentally, if you want to take things in the opposite direction, check out 'action camera' in the keybinding options. Takes GW2's action/tab-targeting hybrid system and leans it more heavily towards the action side of things. Also makes it so you're not holding down the right mouse button for...

What book would you like to see adapted to Movies or TV?

Honestly, I can think of more books that I'd like to see as games. Being able to go hands-on with just about any of Sanderson's magic systems in a video game would be great.

    What are you playing?

Finished Elden Ring--I'm guessing I don't need to sing its praises, you guys all know the deal. I've got Wrath of the Righteous sitting on my hard drive, but before I jump from one 100 hour game to another 100 hour game, I need something a bit lighter, so I'm going to dick around with Avengers...

    Guild Wars 2

Honestly, I don't think I've used an elite spec's weapon as my primary for any of my characters, and I barely use them even as secondary weapons. Original weapons work just fine if you see one you like.

Dragon Age: Why We Can't Have Nice Things

Inquisition was generally good, but suffered from taking a few too many cues from MMOs to fill out their semi-open world. Expect a lot of bear-ass quests for the side content.

    Guild Wars 2

I ended up dropping off the game right before the first expansion released, and only came back a couple years ago (so...at least five years? maybe a little more) and all my stuff was as I left it, so you shouldn't have to worry about anything being purged.

DC Universe (Batman vs Superman thread).

Wasn't Miller in Hawaii when the cops first started looking for him? How the hell did he get back to the mainland without getting snapped up in an airport? Did he smuggle himself in a shipping container on a cargo ship or something?

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

Dragon's Dogma is great, but its big flaw is that it's this massive 60+ hour RPG, but where all the story is contained in the first hour and maybe the last five hours, with everything in between being narrative filler. Hopefully they'll balance that out a bit better in the sequel.

Gotham Knights new Batman game from Warner Bros Montreal

Even if this looked as polished as Arkham, I'd still be feeling pretty ambivalent, to be honest. After the Arkham series, I feel like Batman-as-videogame is pretty much an answered question; I'd much rather see WB Games make use of the rest of the DC mainliners than continuing with more and more...

    Skull and Bones

All they had to do was make Pirate's Creed. Take Black Flag, cut out the Assassins vs Templars story, maybe focus the gameplay a bit more around being a pirate, rather than a pirate/assassin, and they would've had a hit on their hands. Remarkable that they were able to fumble something so...

    Ms. Marvel

Granted, I've only read a little Indian history, but from what I know of it, it's weird that they keep talking about the Partition as something the British inflicted on India. There's a lot of shit in India and Pakistan's history that can be laid at the feet of the British--I trust I'm not...

    Obi-Wan Kenobi

I'll be damned, the last episode was actually good overall--the second-to-last episode wasn't too bad either. Of course, I don't know if it compensates for how uneven the rest of the series was, but at least we got one good lightsaber fight out of the series.

    Starfield - Fallout fallout that isn't ES6

My likely too-damn-optimistic hope is that a large part of the gap between FO4 and Starfield was fucking about with the engine to get something on the scale of Starfield to work, and now that that's out of the way, TES6 will come along faster. I look forward to being disappointed in that hope.

Elden Ring - From Software + George RR Martin

Playing a mage build, I had trouble with her too (shockingly, she has major magic resist). The trick for me was using a fast-moving ash summons like the wolves. With her extreme staggerability, if you go in hard alongside your summons you can just about lock her down. If she manages to get out a...

    Starfield - Fallout fallout that isn't ES6

From the background traits in character creation, it looks like they're leaning heavily on roleplaying. Traits for being raised in various space religions; one that will have your parents exist as NPCs you can interact with, but you're sending 10% of your paycheck back home to them; being able...

Game Pass for Xbox and PC

Looks like Bethesda has been taking some No Man's Sky notes. Good; that design deserves to become a baseline for space exploration games. If Bioware has any sense, we'll be seeing more than a little NMS in the next Mass Effect game as well.

    What did you just read?

The Bone Ships by RJ Barker. Essentially a fantasy Master and Commander story. For all of history, ships have been built from the bones of great sea dragons, but the dragons have seemingly been hunted to extinction, and haven't been seen in generations. With nations having to increasingly...

    Obi-Wan Kenobi

The one that really got me was the spy chick knocking out a stormtrooper by flaccidly slapping him on the top of his helmet. They are really not trying with the more physical elements of the show.

    What did you just read?

Finally finished the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik--historical fantasy Napoleonic Wars with dragons. People weren't lying about how stupid the amnesia arc was. Not only because amnesia stories are inherently stupid, but also because absolutely nothing comes of it--you really get the sense that...

If you're just dicking around in the open world, you really don't need anything in terms of add-ons. It's only if you decide to jump into raids and fractals and the like that they'll start feeling more important.

    Starfield - Fallout fallout that isn't ES6

Eh, that at least is fairly standard for Bethesda nowadays. They're big on cramming the whole pre-release marketing cycle into the ~6 months before release; did it for Skyrim, did it for Fallout 4, I think they did it for Fallout 76.

    The Joe Abercrombie Thread

Wow, good timing on rezzing this thread. I'm just a couple days away from wrapping up my first read of the First Law trilogy (about 400/600 pages through Last Argument of Kings at the moment). Good-ass books, but boy did he ever backload the trilogy with the major events--two full books of (very...

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)

Hell, I liked it. Piled on the weird shit you want from a Dr Strange movie, and Wanda going profoundly off the reservation and slaughtering everyone was great TV. With how central Wanda was to the story, I'm surprised that white Vision never made an appearance. If I'm remembering the show...

I do hope that we'll see more of Moon Knight, and that now that the premise is fully set up, it'll be a little more Moon Knight, and a little less Marc/Steven.
