    V Rising

Strong crossover choice. And it's always nice when crossover content works organically with the game's base setting.

    Dragon's Dogma 2

The first game is a, what, 60+ hour game? The actual story is contained in the first two hours and the last five; everything else is pretty much filler. So yeah, you could mash through a lot of it with little lost.

    Dragon's Dogma 2

Honestly? It might be a little more connected than the typical Final Fantasy game, but not by much. You can start with DD2 if you want, and at most you might miss out on some callbacks to the first game.

    Tyranny

I'm hoping that at some point, Obsidian will put some of that Microsoft money towards buying the IP from Paradox. Even though you can see the point where the money ran out, this game was great; it'd be great to see them make another go at it.

WarnerMedia launching HBO Max Spring 2020

Weren't they shopping around Coyote in the first place because WB was starting to be seen as too kill-happy with their films, and directors and actors were refusing to meet with them? Would've thought they would suck it up and take an offer, even if it wasn't quite as high as they wanted. Better...

    Ashes of Creation

That game Pax Dei sounds like it's trying to go in that direction (although presumably with fewer spreadsheets). The fact that they've got some ex-EVE devs working on it engenders at least a little optimism.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War (Shadow of Mordor Sequel)

That Wonder Woman game that was announced a couple years ago is being made by the Shadow of Mordor devs. That it will be using the Nemesis System is just about the only detail they've shared on it.

    General Gaming News and Discussion

I mean, they're owned by Sony, so yeah, the exclusivity thing is going to happen. Although, Sony has started releasing games on Steam as well, just after a period of PS exclusivity. And yes, good-ass studio; the first Spider-Man game (and I think Miles Morales) is on Steam, and should definitely...

    Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

Nice, I've been waiting for this one to go live before doing a second play through. The simple fact that kingdoms will now actually die off when they lose their land without needing a mod is a massive improvement to the game. EDIT: Jesus Christ. Just took a look at the patch notes; I haven't...

Nope, Monster Hunter was the final announcement.

    Marvel’s Blade

Well this was a fucking curveball. The Dishonored squad working on a Blade title is a solid fit; looking forward to seeing gameplay.
  12. Randin

    Napoleon (2023)

They really did need to go with a tighter time frame for the story. As it is, the movie is covering so much time that it can't really focus in and tell something that feels like coherent story. Instead, it feels more like a anthology of Napoleon stories alternating between battle > being weird...

    Marvel Universe stuff

Ms Marvel had good casting and characters, but felt like they were trying to squeeze three seasons of story arcs into one relatively short season. She Hulk and Secret Invasion? Eeeehhhh... less than great.
  14. Randin

    Malazan Book Of The Fallen

If it's not flat-out stated (it's been a while), it's at least heavily implied that the Bridgeburners collectively ascended as the new gods of death.
  15. Randin

    What did you just read?

This one's safe in that regard, at least. Eco never wrote a sequel (and the story doesn't really lend itself to one), and he's dead, so he's not in a position to change his mind on it.
  16. Randin

    What did you just read?

The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco. In spite of reading a lot of history, I've never really bothered with historical fiction. I thought I'd finally dip my toe in, and this is one of the most frequently recommended medieval novels I saw online. For good reason, it turns out; this is a good-ass...

The Red Letter Media Appreciation Thread

Well, the weird arthouse/film school bullshit they occasionally come across probably has it beat, but it's certainly the weirdest instructional video they've watched.

    General Gaming News and Discussion

The CEO was apparently also the CEO of EA during their scummiest period, which explains a lot of things.
  19. Randin

Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines sequel? Remake?

Well, I'm pretty sure this is literally the studio's first attempt at a game with a combat system, which leads me to feel that beat 'em up is at least an unlikely outcome. Granted, that doesn't leave an abundance of optimism for the quality of the combat, but I guess we'll see.

    Starfield - Fallout fallout that isn't ES6

Weirdly enough, I just got a new computer and ran into a similar problem with my mouse (not with this game though, mostly with TW Warhammer 3). Try going to the Device Manager, and go down to the USB ports and look for a power option that lets the port shut down devices to conserve power...

    RIP Jimmy Buffett

May he find a cheeseburger in Paradise.

    Starfield - Fallout fallout that isn't ES6

This is correct. Hell, I consider one of the primary selling points of Bethesda games to be that they're RPGs where you are just responsible for your own character, and not having to manage a full party of hangers-on. No need to muddy that experience by dragging around companions.
  23. Randin

    What are you playing?

I'll be generous and say play the series up to and including Black Flag. AC1-AC3 are a decent enough and self-contained story, and Black Flag is the best pirate game on the market. Quit there, and you can pretend the series ended on a bang, rather than overstaying its welcome by half a dozen games.

Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Games

Never got around to playing Torment; was going off of nerd osmosis on that one.
  25. Randin

Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Games

Level 1-3, depending on the class.
  26. Randin

Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Games

The super-short version as I recall it: the Gith were slaves of the mind flayers in ancient times, revolted, and fled into the Astral Plane where they split into two cultures, the Githyanki, who went full asshole in their endless crusade against the mind flayers, and the Githzerai, who are more...

Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Games

Haven't reviewers and streamers had the game for all of four days? And Mort's already managed a playthrough? Dude's a machine.

Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Games

They're just the subclasses that aren't in the EA, but will be in the launch version. As for Spores and Wild Magic. In the core book, with the exception of Cleric and Wizard, all classes have either two or three subclasses. For the classes that only have two core subclasses, Larian grabbed a...

Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Games

Minsc was essentially a Barbarian back before DnD had Barbs as a standard class, so Black Isle basically cobbled him together as a Ranger with a special berserk ability.
  30. Randin

    Marvel Universe stuff

Yeah, I'd put Hawkeye at the top of my list of the Marvel shows as well. Ms Marvel did really well with the casting and characters, but felt like it was trying to stuff three seasons of stories into one relatively short season. Moon Knight did some interesting stuff with the character's mental...

Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Games

Tyranny really did deserve more love than it got, even if it did fumble the end a bit. Really good magic system, and the whole 'what if the Dark Overlord was your boss?' thing was a good premise. For another underrated title, I'd point you towards the Expeditions series. Tactical RPGs (so...

Totem barb just got renamed Wildheart barb for whatever reason; still the same mechanics.

Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Games

Planning to go either Moon Druid or Conjurer Wizard for my first play through. Currently leaning towards Druid.
  34. Randin

    Guild Wars 2

Their current plan is to do smaller annual expansions from here on out, rather than the larger expansions with 2-5 years in between with Living World that they've done to date.

Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Games

They've also confirmed half-orcs and dragonborn as the remaining two races, monk as the last class, all the subclasses (all PHB subclasses, and all two-subclass classes are getting a third one from the supplements), and confirmation of most of the party members, both Origin characters and...

    Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

Now that's a big one. Looks like I can dump one of my 'shit that needs fixing' mods next time I decide to play.

Remakes You Would Like To See.

Live action, but with one of the kids still dubbed over with Eddie Deezen. Otherwise, what's the point?

    Starfield - Fallout fallout that isn't ES6

I'm holding out (very possibly vain) hope that it'll end up being closer to 15 than 20. Hopefully Starfield will've seen them knock out most of the engine updates for the next little while, and TES6's development time won't be measured in geologic epochs.
  39. Randin

    Starfield - Fallout fallout that isn't ES6

Of course, if they had decided to build a new full engine rather than upgrading the current one, we would probably still be multiple years out from Starfield, to say nothing of future titles. I'm pretty patient by nature, but I'm not sure I'm down for a 20-year gap between Elder Scrolls titles...

    Starfield - Fallout fallout that isn't ES6

As in actually developed by Bethesda, rather than published? Looks like Fallout 76, with Fallout 4 being their last typical 'Bethesda Game'-style release.
