Well what else could they have offered as a sequel to Cloverfield? It was clear humanity wasn't defeating that monster.

I think you guys are wrong by the way, there will be more to the film than just the bunker.

I enjoyed the original quite a bit and would also like to see a differant POV of the time frame. I watched the Spanish zombie movie VHS or .Rec can't remember which one is which and enjoyed it too for the same reasons. Feel bad for those of you that didn't enjoy it because of motion sickness.

thats not to say that i think this is going to be a boring movie, it looks really interesting i just dont think we are going to get much outside this bunker if anything at all.

I liked the parts of Cloverfield that didn't involve the main characters talking to each other or the girlfriend. If I remember right she sure ran pretty good for someone that had been impaled by a piece of rebar. The sci-fi/horror stuff, the military, the fighting, was all fine. It made me sick as a dog to watch but I am especially susceptible to motion/simulation sickness so that's not a strike against it. Just for me it was another film in a long line of films that had a cast of characters that I found it hard to like, hard to relate to, and hard to cheer on.

Is it Eli Roth's fault that there was some de-emphasis on likeable characters in the 2000s? I'm going to blame Eli Roth.

That's actually pretty fucking funny. I hope you didn't steal that. Because I'm going to.

put me in the very excited camp. I loved the first one, especially, as a_skeleton_02 said, the mystery leading up to it. They had a rad website set up for a Japanese soda company that apparently uncovered the monster while gathering seaweed or something for its sodas. It was all very Japanese/Anime so almost impossible to understand but I loved the viral aspect of that movie.

edit: here's the viral site linked to the first movie

Naw, it's original enough. I was just thinking about how many movies had a cool premise and/or gimmick and were dragged down by mediocre characters and immediately thought of Eli Roth.

"Why are you shooting squirrels?"
"Because they're gay."

Blaming him just feels right.

this movie looks like Fallout 4: Settlement the DLC. Now with more fetch missions, all inside a single building!

Skip this hot garbage and watch 100 on TV, its a way, way better post apocalyptic scenario.

Saw this preview before 13 Hours last night and was wondering if there would be a thread. Until the name I had absolutely no idea it was going to be tied to Cloverfield. I enjoyed most of the first movie, and shaky cam didn't bother me. Well, I would have preferred it not be shaky at all, but it didn't make me motion sick and it didn't prevent me from enjoying the movie. I liked that it didn't spell things out like every other monster movie. It could have been better, definitely, and the girlfriend plot was stupid. She was hot as fuck, and every time I see her I still think of Cloverfield, but Jesus some of that stuff was dumb. But, JJ needed something to drive the story I guess, and couldn't think of anything better, so whatever. Like I said, I enjoyed the movie quite a bit anyway.

This one looks really, really weird to be a sequel. I get how it might connect, and I guess it fits in well with the "small scale view of a monster movie", but the whole (implied) captivity thing was really a weird angle to take for the trailer. It is possible the movie itself doesn't indicate that he's keeping them captive at all like the trailer did, so I'm a little confused why they went that way with the trailer. I'm kind of afraid that the actual storyline will be much less interesting than the implied one setup here.

I'll still watch it, for sure, just not in the theaters. Also, since it comes out in like two months, isn't it a little weird that we're just now hearing about it? Has anyone else been aware of it before now and I just missed it? Usually something by JJ Star Trek/Wars Abrams would be hyped a little earlier, wouldn't it?

I got it.

reddit pointed out the Eiffel tower is bizarrely prominent in the trailer.
girls shirt. two separate pictures on the wall.

Its not the monster attacking outside. this is a secret Bioshock:infinte movie. this is New york under attack from Columbia.

In the trailer, one thing I can't make out is that there looks to be a name on the top landing of the stairs. like a Subway station name set into the floor.

Edit: okay, was able to grab a screen of it, it's only 'Welcome'

For sure looks like Lord of the Flies bunker style "humans don't do well in enclosed spaces for very long" together film. Where one guy knows "the truth" and the other two believe him for a while but then want to see the world and think he might be bullshitting them.

Going to guess Cloverfield raped humanity; this dude survived because he's got a bunker. Those are his two children. They went into the bunker when they were kids, and have been down there for years and don't really believe in the monster, but their dad, having lost their mom, is neurotic and crazy about ensuring they stay hidden from the Cloverfield.

Guy has bunker.
Rescues/Finds two people who are lost/injured.
People are thankful.
Guy won't let them leave.
Try to escape.
Guy stops them.
End up killing/hurting guy.
Open bunker door.
10 seconds of Monster.
Roll Credits.

...I enjoyed Cloverfield and wanted a monster focused sequel. With a budget of only $5,000,000, there is no way that is this movie.

My god, it's like you quoted from a hack fraud textbook. Now I can't imagine the film will be anything other than this.

Put me in the 'I liked Cloverfield camp.'

This looks interesting. It also looks like it initially had nothing to do with Cloverfield then someone had the bright idea to make some minor tweaks to the script or even late reshoots and a name change in order to capitalize on a IP nobody was using.

If JJ Abrams didn't confirm it I would have assumed that people on the internet were just being idiots and this movie has nothing to do with Cloverfield except common word in the title and the same production company.

The trailer really does give the look / impression that the bulk of the film is inside this bunker. So it's a film set in a small space with only 3 cast members?

Which all seems to be a massive step away from the first film.

Until we get more info from some more trailers or something, I'm really just confused.

Reddit did through out another potential timeline, which would be a bit more original, but still fit the trailer.

Guy has bunker.
Rescues/Finds two people who are lost/injured.
Guy won't let them leave.
End up hurting guy.
Girl climbs up stairs, looks outside as seen, sees the devastation.
First 10min of movie.

People are thankful.
Spend a while chilling now. the games, etc.
Something goes wrong.
Survive what goes wrong inside.
escape into the devastation.
End credits.

So, more like The Thing, The martian or something. Either a parasite is in there with them, or the Bunker itself starts breaking down.
