I definitely trust a stat that tells me Alex Smith is better than Manning and Brady
His QBR was behind them, but he was still like 7th in the whole league. When you're TD/Int ratio is 2.6/1, you have the 3rd highest yards per attempt in the league, and the highest completion percentage in the league...you were doing something right.

There is a lot of things wrong with that, you also have to look at yards after completion, smith wasnt throwing the ball deep those stats have more to do with Harbaughs play calling

Yeah, you have to look at completion percentage, yards per attempt, and TD:INT ratio. But you also have to actual look at game tape to determine something like that. It's why RG3 has a super awesome QBR, but he's not throwing it around like other guys. While he rates similarly to Rodgers based on stats, they're not really comparable players.

It's also why looking at Luck's stats and saying he's anywhere close to Wilson or RG3 for ROTY makes sense. But if you watch games, he's an above average rookie QB. Yeah, he's setting records for comebacks, but the reason the Colts have to come back at the end of so many games is because he's turning it over like a fucking machine.

You have to admit that he's still in the 10-15 range, which is top half. It's hard for me to instantly throw some of the rookies that high in my QB rankings (even though 3 of them have had pretty damn good years), and there are plenty of QB's starting in this league that are worse than Joe Flacco.
When I first read it I kind of mistook the meaning of it. You guys are right in a list of all starting QB's in the NFL right now he is 10-15. I read it and kind of took it the wrong way and assumed he wa saying he was an over average QB, which I don't think he is at all.

I don't see the real difference in being very efficient on short/medium routes leading guy for more YAC. If the D knows you're throwing short more, it should be far easier to prevent Smith from having such a high yards per attempt. The guy was playing extremely efficiently, and that counts for something. Obviously it helps to have a great D and running game to make it look even better as well, but there is nothing wrong with taking what they give you and doing it well.

I linked it specifically to Flacco being middle of the pack, which he is every year. You go past 20th and the bulk of them are struggling to break 2k yards. Some exceptions with obvious reasons why.

Saints and Sean Payton agree in principle to new multi-year contract.

It's amazing how things can change so quickly because of one player. I don't remember hearing about people jumping on the Redskins bandwagon in 2005 when we had a similar streak (5 game) to get into the playoffs behind Mark Brunell. I think Berry makes an excellent point about how retarded that "fan" is. 19-12 record over 2 years and the team sucks? Fuck off. Try not having a winning season for years at a time.

Matthew, I've joined the nation! I am a lifelong Steelers fan that is fed up with the garbage that team has put on the field the last two years. I am now officially a Redskins fan. I lived in the DC area for a while, I love RG3 (I did when he was at Baylor too), I'm all in! Can I get a shout out on the podcast as the newest member of the Nation! Hail to the Redskins! Hail victory!

I printed this email because it is rare that 81 words can be so wrong on so many levels. First, no, you are not a lifelong Steelers fan. Anyone who is a lifelong Steelers fan doesn't bail. Steelers fans are among the most passionate, loyal and hardcore fan bases out there. And a lifelong Steelers fan loves his team and couldn't possibly be swayed to join another team. On behalf of actual lifelong Steelers fans, I'm offended.

Second, I'm not sure you understand football. "Garbage that team has put out the last two years." Heading into Week 17 this year, Pittsburgh is 19-12 the last two years, including a playoff spot last year. They've had tough injury luck the last two years but most fan bases would love a 19-12 record over two years. It's only because the franchise has been so excellent that anyone could consider the past two years any sort of disappointment. It's insane.

I'm a lifelong Redskins fan. I've certainly had many more years when it would have made sense to bail. But I never did. Because I can't. It's in my blood. My DNA. I can't not root for them, even if I tried. Ingrained in me since I was 5 years old living in Virginia. I will die a Redskins fan. It is what it is. That's what being a lifelong fan means.

You seem a nice enough person and as you know, RG III is my favorite player in the NFL, so I'll take all the positive vibes I can get this Sunday for the Washington-Dallas game. But man, go back to the Steelers, if they'll have you.

I don't want fans like that following the Skins. Mad about 19-12 but changing allegiance to a team that's 14-17 over that same time period.

I think it is wonderful and hope 75% of the Pittsburgh fanwagon jumps ship to ride the RG3 train.

I would love to see that happen.

Saw a dude wearing a Steelers cap at a bar last night. Took a lot of will power to not say anything.
