So guys like Norv that were consistently really good OC's a few years ago, how sure are we that will translate to today's spread-heavy 60/40+ run/pass offenses? It's been a while since he was a straight up OC. At first I was thinking it was a great hire for the Browns, then I started wondering this.

He made Alex Smith look decent a few years ago when the team and rest of the coaching staff was shit.

Also, cool to finally see the stats on icing the kicker. Long field goal % actually goes up, but the sample size is really too small to draw many conclusions other than it doesn't do anything other than annoy everyone.

He'll have so many fewer things to worry about as an OC.

The non full-retard truth why Joe Montana is still #1, and Brady #2:

If you've been watching NFL Network or ESPN this week you've undoubtedly seen this statistic being tossed around to prove that Joe is still #1:"Joe Montana is 4-0 in superbowls, and Tom Brady is 3-2"

If you're a rational person, then you agree this is a terrible argument considering someone could easily have the perspective:"Well Brady's been to more"

Here's why Joe is #1 still, though - Go back to the championship game then to the Superbowl for each quarterback, and their statistic lines are:

Montana 8-3, 24 TD, 7 INT, 3x Superbowl MVP

Brady 8-3, 15 TD, 9 INT, 2x Superbowl MVP

I was considering the same thing because Norv has been a consistently good OC. While I think we are seeing the beginning of the pro game catch back up to the college game in terms of offensive schemes, I think it's going to be a slow transition for the same reasons that the pro game has been slow to adopt in the first place: an insular and hyper-conservative coaching culture. I think Norv is still going to be a good OC for a few more years yet. Whether that translates into success on the field is an entirely different matter though. The Browns are still the Browns and will still be facing a talent deficit in a tough division. That doesn't make it any less of a good hire though.

It's a stupid argument with no right answer. Show me some people debating which player is better from two different eras and I'll show you a couple jerk-offs with too much time on their hands.

While I understand the purpose of the Rooney Rule, I think getting butt hurt about no minority head coaches being hired, and then looking to revise the rules as a result, is really just not in the overall spirit of the Rule.

The amusing part is they specifically reference Caldwell not getting any interviews as a justification.

The idea is that these guys get experience interviewing and get achanceto impress. If they're gonna get all butthurt because no black guys get the jobs they interview for and try to change the rules to basically force teams to hire them it's just full on affirmative action at that point. So rather than "The guys aren't getting a chance to earn these jobs on merit" it becomes pity hires basically.

Didn't everyone interview Lovie Smith?

How can Caldwell not getting interviews matter... he still has a job for at least 18 more hours, why would he be interviewing? No one wants him because everyone knows he had nothing at all to do with Indy's success while he was there. Everything was put into place by the black guy before him and executed by the white guy on the field. He could have been replaced with a retarded gerbil and got nearly the same record.

No where has the NFL shown that is has steered away from black coaches in the past decade or so that I have seen and can think of. It only steers away from bad ones. Now you can point at a lot of bad decisions to fire coaches, but I don't think any of them was "'Cause he was a darkie".

Stupid.

Why isn't there a Rooney Rule for black kickers? That shit seems out of control racist.

Wait wtf I just googled that and never actually heard about it. Are they fucking serious with that? Why not make a Rooney rule for white corner backs/running backs

I don't really have a problem with the Rooney rule as it has been. But turning it to full on affirmative action just seems fucking retarded.
