That's an awful lot of RB's at the top of the draft. Apparently running backs are still more highly coveted by the clubs than I think they should be. If you're using anything higher than a late 2nd day pick, you'd better be getting a damned superstar. At least, that's my opinion.

Are you reading their draft board correctly? They have zero rbs with a first round grade and only two with a second round grade.

Yeah I understand that but late second day pick = third round, right? So that would be him saying it is ok selecting a rb after the first two rounds.

In my head I was thinking 4th round. I can't remember what damn day they do what round anymore. I liked it before when it was on a fucking Friday/Saturday.

The length of time that a running back is useful to a team is becoming shorter and shorter, and the talent disparity between college and the NFL is all but gone. So when you can pick up any random starting RB from a D1 school and plug them into your team, where they'll start for 3-4 years, I think it's ridiculous to use a 1st-3rd round pick. Add in the fact that most teams are using a RB by committee you're basically left with Peterson as the only RB worth where they were drafted.

Use your 1st and 2nd round picks on defensive line, linebackers, interior offensive linemen, and DB's, only making an exception if there's a freak at QB or WR (basically if you have the chance to grab the #1 or #2 WR on the board, and you need a #1 receiver, you take it). Starters for everything else can be found in the 3rd and later.

2008 we won the SB after our starting RB was hurt (Willie Parker), and didnt have Hines Ward remotely healthy for the SB with a fucked up MCL from the Ravens game. On top of the hodge podge OL we were fielding at the time and after losing Alan Faneca.

Next man up brosky. No excuses.
Not like Parker was some super weapon with his 71.9 average YPG that season. Steelers were 23rd in rushing that year. Your defense making a huge play and Ben making his first TD pass at the very end of his 2nd Super Bowl won the Steelers that ring.

The fourth round is the start of the third day. Elurin, I agree with your valuation of rbs, but I really can't blame the Cowboys for picking Murry in the third two years ago since he has been pretty good when healthy.

Yea, its easy to win SBs being completely one dimensional on offense..........hint hint, part of your amazing statfind didnt include that his low ypg was because he was hurt....it ended his career in fact. Regardless, finding a way to win is the key.

Barnwell bashing on Rivers, Cutler, Vick, etc. -http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/...an-quarterback
Honest question, what do you guys think the odds are of Rivers being in the league a year from now? I think it's likely the Chargers go with a new QB next Fall, so what are the odds Marmalad gets a backup job somewhere else? I just don't see it.

Edit: As to the article itself, I think it depends a lot on this season. If Geno Smith melts down in NY, and EJ Manuel keeps up to the Bills' average, I can see a lot of teams going back to only putting in the rookies if the situation is desperate.

Honestly, the thing that interests me more is the backup QB market. A league that can get Nassibs and Cousins in the fourth round is going to decimate the second string contracts we've been seeing.

It's not easy at all, that wasn't my point. They found a way to get a huge 14 point swing just before halftime, and Ben made an incredible throw on the final drive. Big plays/turnovers can turn games, and ~100 yard pick 6 was one of the biggest plays in SB history.

There is no doubt Rivers finds work somewhere. Take the Jets for example, or the Bills.

Assuming his ego can handle it, the absolute worst case would be he's a backup somewhere (or he gets hurt, which I suppose would be worse than that). So I don't see him exiting the league anytime soon.
