Combination of receivers being retarded (Reuben Randle), dropping balls (Hakeem Nicks), and the offensive line letting him take a beating. They will never blame Eli for what's going on with the offense. Gilbride refuses to adapt the offense and says it's going through "growing pains" and will get over it. Wtf?Coughlin's been around long enough (and won the SBs so recently) that he gets the graceful exit plan, ala Andy Reid, where no one will mention what will obviously happen on Black Monday.
To me, the more interesting situation is Eli Manning. The guy has the largest cap hit in the league this season. The entire league.
I can't imagine he goes; I can't imagine that contract doesn't get restructured.
I don't agree with fining him, but under current rules I do agree it was correct to throw a penalty flag for hitting a defenseless receiver. At that point I'm not sure what he could have done, maybe stuck his arms out and try to disrupt the receivers hands; he just should have been in better position so he didn't have to hit the receiver mid-air.How is he supposed to hit him, or he just needs to let him catch the ball and score a touchdown?
You are not allowed to hit a 'defenseless' receiver in the head with any part of your body. Not your helmet, not your shoulder, not your hand, not your pinky toe. This is the hit he got fined and penalized for. Pretty horse shit.
This. Coupled with the fact that a lot of smaller defensive backs, in order to make up for their lack of size and tackling ability/technique, simply launch their bodies at the defender. Inevitably, that seems to be leading with the head. (Not necessarily in this case; his shoulder hit the guys head.)I don't agree with fining him, but under current rules I do agree it was correct to throw a penalty flag for hitting a defenseless receiver. That's what made all the recent bad press so bizarre. By releasing him, the Bucs are entirely on the hook for his current contract, and any money he makes if picked up is just extra cash for Freeman. Furthermore, by releasing him, the Bucs have tossed out any picks they might have received in trade, even if they would have been 5th-7th rounders. No real shocker here
From everything I've read, the guy was so much of a cancer to the team that there was no way it wouldn't get out regardless. Bad work ethic, drug/alchohol problems, bad production, bad teammate, etc..That's what made all the recent bad press so bizarre.
Every time people write them off they go out and win a Super Bowl. It's going to take more than 1 bad season to justify firing Coughlin.pfft, 9-7 last year and watching the playoffs from the comfort of the home. Ok, I can live with that.
0-4, 2nd worse points differential (only Jacksonville sucks more) and probably losing to Philly on Sunday is more than enough to get you fired. 7 points in last 2 games? Gimme a break
Lane KiffinWho would realistically be better than Coughlin? Do you try and hire a guy like Cowher or Gruden? Lots of guarantees there...with the decade+ out of football between them. Lovie Smith maybe? You aren't going to promote/hire a coordinator to replace Coughlin and his rings after 1 season in the shitter. I cannot see the ownership going there...this isn't Al Davis at the helm.
If things really start looking bad for the long term he'll probably opt to legitimately retire, he's the oldest coach in the league iirc.
Well, the trouble with Freeman was that he was just never consistent. There were times he'd be on fire and you would think 'Wow, he's got some talent in there" and then other times he would go full Romo and you would just shake your head. Some people blame the changing of coaches, players, etc. But at the end of the day, the players have to produce results, just as the coaches do. From what little I heard about Schiano before he came here, he definetly seemed like he would bump heads with some of the players. Morris was too much of a nice guy to the team, Schiano is probably a shock like a bucket of ice water compared to him. From everything I've read, the guy was so much of a cancer to the team that there was no way it wouldn't get out regardless.
