Whatever part of the foot that touches the ground must be wholly inbounds. So, toe is in but heel lands out is incomplete. Toe in then lifted off ground then heel down - complete pass.

Any part of the foot in bounds = catch. Obviously your toes are typically in bounds before any other part of your foot, but if you're falling out of bounds on your heels or something it'll be a catch.
It was ruled not a catch because even though his toes were inbounds before the heel came down, his heel coming down was part of a "natural step".

So if a receiver jumps in the air, makes a catch, lands one foot in bounds, drags the other toe and then lands out of bounds, by this logic it would be incomplete. Today was literally the first time I've ever seen that called incomplete it was just the opposite motion, instead of falling forwards he fell backwards.

edit: way to fucking fail bengals. You suck.

Definitely never heard of that shit. By that logic, any receiver dragging toes would be incomplete anytime. What the fuck is a "natural step?" And what is an unnatural step, by that same logic?

No idea, that was the ruling that gutted our drive right after the Ravens were given 60 yards in illegitimate PI calls.

No it wasn't. He had inside position and both were going for the ball, the only contact made was incidental. Either way, if the first phony 40 yard one didn't happen the second wouldn't have existed.

The toe can be dragged out of bounds as long as it landed inbounds first and the heel doesn't touch out before the toe comes off ground. The "step" lasts as long as a foot makes continuous contact with the ground.

So if the toe is dragged out of bounds, never leaves the ground, and then the front of the foot lands down out of bounds it would be incomplete?

So Eli gets punched in the head and no call is made and it results in an interception. Awesome.
