I don't know, looks like a safety to me. Mostly. But jesus, it's not like he got blind-sided, the dude came right up the gut. THROW IT SOMEWHERE!
If you look at the replay (which I can't find the goal line camera view), Dalton tucks the ball back before getting hit by Wake, and part of it is on the plane of the goal line. His forward progress is where the ball is when contact is initiated. If he didn't flinch and pull the ball back when he saw Wake, the ball would have been at about the 2 inch line.

But seriously, let's do a 5 step drop on our own 7 yard line!

It has to clear the goal line. you can't spot the ball anywhere on the goal line - what if (for argument's sake) they went for it on 4th down an had an incomplete pass - turnover on downs would result in a touchdown for the other team because the ball would be spotted on the goal line. it's got to completely clear it.

They were talking about it in one of the early week games when we had a ton of safeties. It's the opposite of a touchdown, where only part of the ball has to cross. Instead, for a safety, the entire ball has to be over the line for it to be ruled that it wasn't a safety.

Something I've always wondered about is why is there even an off-season in the NFL? It seems like teams would just reduce their hours to ~40 a week and go about their business like every other full-time job in America. I'm sure it would help cut down on all the ACL tears and bullshit injuries happening like this season.

Most players train pretty much year round as it is, so how exactly would that cut down on injuries? Did Geno Smith blow out his ACL in week 8 of the season because he wasn't training last February?

The Big 12 certainly churned out some quality head cases in the last couple years. Dez Bryant, Justin Blackmon, Aldon Smith. Gotta love guys that you don't know if they'll end up having more pro bowls, or more suspensions.
Dez hasn't did shit and that bullshit with his mom was overblown and the truth was reported once and ignored, he didn't slap his mom because he wanted to, she jumped into stop Dez fighting with his brother who was fucking him out of money and got hit.

Yeah training by yourself and with your team are two completely different things.

It's been speculated that the recent influx of ACL injuries are due to the change in the off-season plans, I don't agree or disagree either way, I still find it strange that there's an "off-season" for players that make as much money sa they do.

Are you suggesting they play games year round? Or that they just show up to work out?

I would imagine they would practice/workout/train. Just like they do before the season starts.

I would imagine they have an offseason for the mental health of all the players and staff. You figure during the season, they're essentially completely gone from their families. I mean, sure, they probably see them a few hours after practices on Mon/Tues of away weeks, and most of the home weeks. But I've heard of coaches who sleep in their offices for the entirety of the season.

Giving them an offseason to do whatever and blow off some steam seems like a decent idea. Whether they would get more or less time, I don't know. I also don't know how you can blame ACL injuries on offseason prep. I'd say it's more likely that the artificial surfaces have more to do with it. The newest field turf apparently plays a lot faster than grass, so you're also talking about cutting faster. That seems like it'd be a good recipe for knee injuries.
