1. You were the one who asked why he isn't starting. The previous mentions were in regard to the draft as a benchmark for bad passing mechanics.

2. He tried to throw plenty of check downs. He just missed them a lot. You don't get 6.38 ypa by airing it out.

3. No you couldn't. Don't be an idiot.

Why bring him in as a backup? Are you guys seriously going to say that QB's like Mark Sanchez, Ryan Tannehill, Geno Smith, Christian Ponder, Matt Flynn, RG3, Crapernick, Josh Freeman, etc. who can't manage to win games on teams that actually have good players deserve the start over someone who took a terrible (what were they, 1-7) Broncos team to the playoffs? What did Tebow lose, 1 game as a starter? Denver even intentionally tried to make Tebow fail but he still carried their asses.
Dude, put down the crack pipe. Seriously.

Why are you morons letting meth head Tebow-troll you? He even throws out Kaep and RG3 knowing how many more responses he will get. Fuck, get it together.

They just mentioned something on NLFN that I was thinking about watching highlights of last night's game:

When RG3 got knocked on his ass, no one seemed to come over to help him up. Normally an offensive lineman is right there to give a hand, make sure he's Ok, whatever. RG3 got knocked down and laid there, no one bothering with him at all.

I kind of feel sorry for RG3. He is 24 years old, came into the league and set the world on fire, and has not handled coming back to reality overly well. Obviously he has pissed off his coach and maybe his teammates as well but it can't be easy to be hailed as the second coming of Jesus in your rookie year, then getting hurt and coming back not fully healed and finding yourself on a shitty team and in an NFL where the scheme you were so successful with doesn't work anymore.

I think last night's game is a good explanation on why the 49ers have not run the option much at all this year. Their defense has a scheme that very effectively nullifies it. 30 yards in the second half last night was pretty much the eulogy for the read option. The 49ers know it so they are forced to make Kaep into a pocket quarterback. I think both him and RG3 have the ability to do that, they're just not able to live up to the standard that was set for them last year. If not for the option taking the league by storm for a year both of them probably would have played backup a bit longer and had the chance to learn. They both have a lot of talent and neither of them seem to be idiots, but they got put into a difficult position because of the time that they came into the league. I think all you have to do is look at Cam Newton to see that a bad second year doesn't mean that you're not capable of becoming a solid NFL quarterback given a little time. Kaep has the advantage over RG3 that he's on a team with a badass defense and a solid running game + O-line so his reality check hasn't been as painful as Griffin's.

Good teams and coaches will take the bits and pieces of the read option and adapt it to their more traditional offenses. Traditional nowadays meaning 35-45 passes a game. Same way teams adapted the Run and Shoot/Spread 4 and 5 wide and high motion offenses without going all in. The Oilers put up some awesome numbers and won zero meaningful games with that shit.

Sucks for DC that they mortgaged a draft to go all in on a guy but don't have a good enough coach(Shanny is a joke without Elway) to adapt the guy to the NFL game. Plus RG3 might be a douchebag with a mediocre football IQ. At least the Niners didn't go all crazy to get that overhyped stack of tattoos and Harbaugh seems smart enough to work around his limitations until he can make it work or he'll cut bait.

Remember when Tomlin said the read option shit was flavor of the month and folks were all up his ass? Yeah, he might be a cliche spouting rah rah Omar Epps impersonator, but he nailed that shit.

It would be a hell of a lot easier if he would just keep his fucking mouth shut and play football.

Not easy to keep your mouth shut in todays NFL. You get torn a new ass for refusing to play the media game or you play the media game and look like an asshole anyways unless you're a proven superstar.

It wasn't a draft it was 3 firsts and an additional pick. That's a fuckload of picks.

Not sure why everyone here is saying the read option is dead. Yeah it's not completely out of control like it was last year but it's actually being used by more teams at a higher overall percentage then before. Just because RG3's knee is still fucked up and the Niners are trying to turn Kaep into Manning/Brady doesn't mean the scheme itself is done.

As frustrating as it's been to watch some of his play this year, I think it's too soon to call the dude a draft bust. I mean, look at the fucking Redskins...this is a team that does literally nothing well. Maybe the running game, when the offensive coordinator is willing to commit to it. Morris is pretty good. And there's Ryan Kerrigan...otherwise it's hard to see a lot of obvious star talent out there.

It's obvious that the read option blowing up the league last year covered up a lot of dogshit on the Redskins. On top of that you have 2 years of John Mara salary cap penalties. $18M/yr is nothing to sneeze at. That's a shitload of depth players. Most people who have watched a Redskins game understand what a dumpster fire the secondary and especially the special teams are and Griffin doesn't play there. Look at how the 49ers manhandled the offensive line, etc. It's problem after problem all over the place.

The biggest worry for me so far is, yeah, the guy might be a huge uncoachable douchebag and will never make it mentally to succeed at quarterback. They can upgrade the old/bad players on the team a lot easier than fixing that.

When half the teams use the read option it as a major part of their offense, it catches nobody by surprise and everyone is ready for it. It's popular in high school/college because it's simple, not because it's effective

It's also popular in high school because there will usually be 1 or 2 kids in an entire district that might have a chance at going pro or being somebody in college and that's it. There is nobody who can shut them down so the gameplan becomes "give him the ball and we win". College is obviously a step up from high school but it's still the same thing happening for the most part. The few good ones just shred everybody else because they have a shot at being a professional whereas the other 99% have no chance in hell.
