Ok so even if it was a fumble it should have been a touch back per the rules. Colts provided the impetus.

RULE 8, SECTION 7, ARTICLE 4

If a ball is fumbled in a team's own end zone or in the field of play and goes out of bounds in the end zone, it is a
safety, if that team provided the impetus that sent the ball into the end zone (See 11-5-1 for exception for
momentum).If the impetus was provided by the opponent, it is a touchback.

Agree with this. In fact, I've seen teams get screwed by this rule before, where they would've basically had a touchdown but it went out the back and the other team gets the ball.

No, it's confusing as fuck, but ...

The impetus is always attributed to the offense, unless the defense creates a new force that sends the ball behind its own
goal line by muffing a ball which is at rest or nearly at rest, or by illegally batting or illegally kicking a ball (3-15-3)

Since the ball wasn't "at rest or nearly at rest," even though the defense batted it out, the offense is still the impetus.

The latter, of course. I think the regime that drafted Weeden is actually gone, isn't it? Hard to remember with Cleveland, I think they get a new front office and coaching staff every 2 seasons it seems like.

Weak PI. Only reason it looked like it was called was cause the receiver fell. Receiver wasn't looking for it, DB actually DID for a split second.

I wish they wouldn't call PI on uncatchable balls.

Was that a catchable ball? Looks like it was thrown a few yards behind Edelman...or was he pushed ahead enough? I just love how consistent PI calls are from game to game, zebra crew to zebra crew. Pretty sure the officials wouldn't have even flinched at that one in the Seattle game today.
