The Ringer posted a fantastic piece about Kyle Shanahan. It nailed down the problems facing the team, highlighting Shanahans failures, specifically developing player talent.
A great point was how he openly talks shit about his young players. His "doghouse" is notorious, as he is unreasonably harsh towards young guys. What other head coach would say "the less he takes advantage of the opportunities hes given the less oportunities he gets" about his young wide reciever he just drafted with a high pick a year prior?
There are numerous other instances I can think of where he has said negative shit to the press about his players. Like with Aiyuk this year. He is also healthy scratching Lenoir over a couple blown coverages, opting to play fucking Josh Norman and Dre Kirtpatrick instead....
This right here sums up the 49ers problems so damn eloquently I had to share it,
"Rookies aren’t given long leashes, especially on offense, and the messaging they get from their head coach doesn’t seem to elicit improvements. Impatience and high expectations magnify little mistakes and thrust veterans over young players in an effort to quickly heal those minor problems. But without rookie development, those minor problems fester, becoming issues that cannot be overcome."
Rookie players contributing to team success is crucial to developing a balanced roster. Many of the great teams of the past had one or two dynamite rookies who were playing well above their station. A good example of this was the last 49er SB team in 94' with rookie FB William Floyd.
