I've definitely seen them stop the clock while spotting the ball late then wind it as soon as they do.

Only if the ball gets kicked somewhere or if ref drops/fumbles it. Guy was laying right where it was going to get spotted. It's just a complete fuck up.

Yeah but there's no delay needed to spot it. It's easy to see 4 seconds b/c the play clock runs from 39 seconds down to 35 before it starts up again. They spiked it with only 3 seconds left...time would have run out. The whole "can't get tackled in bounds or clock will run out before you can spike it".

Unless the refs randomly stop the clock for no reason for enough seconds for you to spike it.

Lot easier to "take the high road" when you stop the 2 point conversion and get the win anyways. Will be interesting to hear the eventual explanation.
