Deebo to Commanders for a 5th? I like it. Can easily trade back and recoup the pick, and KK will find ways to make Deebo useful. Don't have to worry about looking for WR2 as high in draft or free agency now. At least for this coming season.

Rumors today that Aiyuk might be up for trade as well but I don't see it. Unless they can trade him for another #1 receiver it just doesn't make sense unless they don't think he's going to recover from the Achilles tear because no team is going to offer much for him based on his contract and the fact that he's coming off of an injury.

According to Washington Commanders 2025 Financial Summary, the Redskins had the third lowest total salaries on the books for this year, so yeah, do what you can while Jaden's cheap.

That said, while the league season hasn't technically started yet (midnight on March 13th), it seems like we should be using a new thread.

Edit: How the hell are the Browns the highest for next year, even over the Saints?

I think you mean ACL tear, not Achilles. Unless he suffered a new injury that I am not aware of.

And yeah I don't see it either. I think they fucked up that entire contract extension, and I worry that Aiyuk will never be the same. I was on board with them paying him, simply because he seemed to have great chemistry with Purdy. So losing your young QB's favorite target just seemed foolish. But the way that entire situation dragged out, didn't help anyone. So I guess we will see how this all plays out.

No, his salary (like most) was always structured for most of the hit to land in later years, when new media contracts raise the cap making the amount easier to absorb.

So yes, while the $73 Million cap hits this year and next seem astronomical, it's only 26% of the cap for this year - Dak, for instance, has a hit of $90M, almost a third of the Cowboys' cap. (Even Mahomes' hit is $66M, almost 24% of the Chiefs' cap.)

The real answer is the Browns also have nearly $52M in dead money, mostly to Amari Cooper ($23M) and Za'Darius Smith ($14M). Which is, of course, why the Myles Garrett situation will get so ugly - the Browns really don't have the resources to also eat a sizable dead money hit on him getting released or traded.

I'm pretty curious as to what side of $60m Purdy ends up on
Same here. I hope he gets paid, but realizes he really shouldn't be resetting the QB market. I'm not delusional to think he is as good as the top tier QBs, Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Lamar, etc. But he is absolutely good enough to win with. Holding my breath for sub 60, but who knows what it will come out to.

Deebo has declined every year since 2021.

I hope the Commander's enjoy a fat, out of shape RB who only runs routes if he knows he's the first target. Shanahan's offense should improve this year since he'll force less of it through that turdburger.

Wasn’t he super mad at Shanahan after the confetti came down on his face a 2nd time? I remember an interview that said he was the only 49er that just stayed on the field to watch the Chiefs hoist the trophy. My ass would have been off that field asap.

It’s a win win for both organizations imo. Washington gave a 5th and you lost the drama.

It's a huge win for the 49ers. I thought for sure they were going to have to release him and get nada. They better be happy they got at least something.

Deebo definitely had his moments but if you watch any of the guys that break down film they always point him out slacking when he's not the first target and all his heroics the first year they used him as a running back have not been seen for a couple of years. On top of that, he was a good match for Garappolo who just threw short passes in the middle of the field and relied on Deebo and Kittle to get YAC. Purdy actually throws accurate passes with anticipation and thus needs receivers that can run precise routes and get separation down the field which has never been Deebo's strength.
