His textbook on modern urban warfare is due out soon but his recent podcast brought up a good point: The USSR built their postwar subway systems on based on two insights. The most widely-known was to build them to survive nuclear war, which was already discussed previous posts here. But another insight was the experience of soviet fighters in Stalingrad and the siege of Leningrad, who wished they had a bombproof means of traversing and distributing materiel across the city. The USSR built the postwar subways of Kharkiv and Kyiv with those insights in mind and it will make the siege of Kyiv an unprecedented nightmare
