I am actually okay with it - while the book purist in me is horrified, this isn't some hack-ass shit show like that fuckery they tried with Terry Goodkind or the 'pirate pilot' of Wheel of Time hacked together specifically to fuck over Jordan's estate. The show is doing more justice to the books - even with the differences here and there - than I thought possible. So while it does suck that we are going to watch it instead of read it, at least we are watching something that is being created with the highest possible production values, and being made by people who greatly respect the source material, even though half of that source material has not actually been committed to the page yet.

Show is great and hell the telltale game is amazing too. I'm fine with it as long as the Roose stays loose.

You say that like both of those aren't true.

Best possible outcome (troll?) is if he changes the ending for the books after the shows air it.

I don't know that magic 8 ball must be broken. Because a ending to me is better than no ending.

What if the show ending is so god damn awesome he can't top it?
We are going to get a show ending exactly as the big man intends it; most of the major plot moments (and all of the super major moments) thus far - Red Wedding, Ned's execution, Viserys' gold shower, Dany hatching the dragon eggs, Purple Wedding, Mountain vs. the Viper off the top of my head - have been pretty much word for word exactly from the books and I have no doubt that future major moments - even if they aren't written yet - will be exactly the same way, as the rough outline of where things were going and how it ends was already given to Weiss and Benioff.

GRRM's problem isn't that he hasn't figured out an ending; he has that, and so do the show producers. He just has no idea how the hell to get his characters there so he has essentially outsourced that to HBO while he sits back and feasts on roast boar and shit and collects paychecks as fat as he is.

I think you're assuming that there's one ending GRRM has in mind and that he won't change his mind.

Authors generally lack the reverence for canon material that fans have and I could definitely see GRRM watch the last episode of GoT, mull it over in his head for 5 years and then completely change the ending.

Pretty sure he's already said before that he thought about changing the endings but decided against it.

George R.R. Martin doesnt know why you care so much about spoilers | The Verge

"This whole concept of spoilers is one that I've never gotten," he says. "Yes, there's a pleasure when you're reading a book, or watching a television show ? What will happen next? Who will win? Who will lose? But that is by no means the only reason to watch a movie or a television show. It's not the only reason to read a book."

"THIS WHOLE CONCEPT OF SPOILER IS ONE THAT I'VE NEVER GOTTEN."

I thought Martin had made his point, but he was just warming up. "I read a lot of historical fiction, you know? I know who won the Civil War ? it's not a spoiler to me. But I can still enjoy Gettysburg, even though I know how the battle came out. I can still enjoy historical fiction about the Wars of the Roses, even though I know who won the Wars of the Roses. And for that matter, I still enjoy watching Citizen Kane every few years even though I know 'Rosebud' is the sled. So there ? I just gave a terrible spoiler to all the people who haven't seen Citizen Kane. Rosebud is the sled, but nonetheless, you should still watch Citizen Kane, because it's incredible!" Martin laughed a deep, satisfied laugh, and continued down the black carpet.
Book Spoilers don't matter anymore!

GRRM knows this is his Lord of the Rings; while he is a pretty big troll, there is no way he would blow shit up just to be an asshole. If he was totally removed from the show, it was being made poorly or against his wishes, I could see it, but he is too much in bed with the whole thing to do something like that I think.

They did a study. People that had a story spoiled for them actually enjoyed it more than unspoiled people.
I believe that. I'd rather read a synopsis (spoilers included) of a movie before seeing it. Thank god for wikipedia.
