Maybe this is a parody site and I missed the joke, but it still wouldn't surprise me if it's true. I have reached the final stage of grief - acceptance, as I have accepted that HBO is going to finish this story for us.George R. R. Martin still has fans waiting for his release of the sixth installment of his highly-esteemed masterwork series, "A Song of Ice and Fire". He is not close to ending his diehard followers' agony and curiosity as the 66-year-old bestselling author was reportedly requesting to have the release date of "Winds of Winter" moved to 2016 from the original 2015 schedule.
They? They who? Gurrm owns all the rights and I doubt he'd ever give someone permission to finish the series if he croaked.Honestly... I don't really think we'll see a new book by Martin at all. Maybe they'll get another author to write it.
That fucker can write it into his will.He can't take the rights with him.
"Eventually I will not be alive because Valar Morghulis, all men must men die, and I don't think my wife, if she survives me, will allow that either," he told them. "But one thing that history has shown us is eventually these literary rights pass to grandchildren or collateral descendants, or people who didn't actually know the writer and don't care about his wishes. It's just a cash cow to them. And then we get abominations, to my mind, like Scarlett, the Gone with the Wind sequel."
ftfyIt doesn't matter what GRRM says or wants at this point. He can burn his notes, keel over from a heart attack, or just go do whatever the fuck he wants, but he had to tell the HBO bros what the ending was for all the major characters as a condition of turning his books into a show. HBO is going to finish the story with or without him; the only question that remains for us book nerds is if he will release book 6 before HBO airs the final season.
That's what I mean, I've never seen him actually say it. I think the question pisses him off, as it would. It would piss me off if someone kept asking me if they could have my stuff when i died. But I don't think any of us can judge what he would really do, and more importantly what would become of his estate after he died. It is one of those pointless questions, like "how many seasons of the show will there be?" We will know when or if it happens.Yes, there are tons of interviews with him talking about writers taking over after someone has died and totally trashed the series. He has probably never said directly "Ill never let someone finish my series", but he has gone all the way up to it.
There really isn't any doubt, he isn't going to let someone finish the series voluntarily.
