Then Ned Stark says that he hardly thinks of Rhaegar while Robert is still obsessed. Well you would think about him if you fostered his son? He does have dreams about making Lyanna a promise and acts to not assassinate Daenerys.

What's disappointing is when you put all the pieces together and the author ignores what's been set up and does something totally different. Which GRRM will probably do.

I believe he said in a recent interview he thought about doing just that (since readers did figure out the end basically) but said he decided against it. Not that he's going to finish anyway.

Can always be optimistic and think he's refining every plot point all the way to the end so the last book will go much faster without having any glaring plot holes or fuckit details.

Robb maimed Joffrey in battle before dying,
Tyrion burns Winterfell,
Catelyn got killed North of the Wall,
Benjen was originally NW Commander,
Dany killed Drogo as revenge for Viserys and found her dragon eggs in the Dothraki Sea,
Jon's parentage to be revealed at the end of the series.
