this is pretty nuts, just record your environment and it gets turned into a 3d world. Im sure we'll soon be able to do mods/settings like 'make everything cartoony' or 'make everything anime' to these worlds to automate that too. we're gettin close to ready player one.

Theyre making some pretty huge strides in the AI fields and just like you, I cant wait for the next evolution of games to come out that are using it. Makes me wish I was younger so I could enjoy it at its pinnacle. Though, I guess shitting in a diaper in a nursing home - they'll still allow you to play games.

That reminded me of the Microsoft projector thing from apparently a decade ago (wtf) that would turn your room into a cartoon or an extension of your game. This still looks awesome, and now I'm sad that nothing ever came of it. Hopefully I've just managed to miss it for a few years and someone can m wrong and someone can point me at the $49 Chinese knockoff that brings the magic!

hold onto your papers!

The amazing part starting around 2:00, the flexicubes process took a plain video and created a moving 3d model replica of it. You could upload it your favorite porn and it will eventually create a 3D version of it that you can walk around and observe from any angle you want. What a time to be alive!

A friend sent me his old GPU! I love it! It is a 1080. Getting around 1.48 iterations per second in linux, and that's with a crapton of stuff open. It's pooping out an image every 21 seconds or so:

If you ask me to get you a screencap from Dune, I'm going to go get a screencap from Dune.

If you ask me to draw you a stick figure of the Muad'Dib with crayons, I'm going to draw you a stick figure of the Muad'Dib with crayons.

If you ask me to paint you a watercolor landscape of Arrakis, I'm going to tell you to fuck off because I can't.

I'm onboard with these things not being "true AI", but don't act like we're anything special ourselves. I'm interested in this stuff in the same way that I'm interested in the fire I start in the woodstove every night. I see a small flickering of the flames and know that it's going to turn into a roaring fire, but I like watching the path it takes to get there.

What it demonstrates is that it contains the copyrighted images inside the model.
So if I google Dune movie screencap and google does in fact show me movie screencaps, is google also guilty of copyright infringement for having those images in their search engine?

You have walked into my trap card.

Google hyperlinks to material. Google does not present those images as their own product. Further, for 25+ years, robots.txt has allowed you to control how your content is indexed by search engines. Additionally, Google gives massive amounts of control to site owners over how their content is indexed and used, through the Google Search Console. There are many ways to take down your content from Google at the content owner's request.

By contrast, an LLM (text) or a Diffusion Model ("art") is actually using some very funky math and a lot to compute during the training run in order to store the reference texts and images inside its model. The model is their product, and it is unchangeable until the next training run. It will then use the model to reproduce that stored material as its own work on demand. No control is given to the site owners or content owners as to how they want their content stored or reproduced. No attribution is given, either explicitly or via hyperlink (though Bing Chat continues to improve at this, a single point in their favor.) Further, there are no mathematical scissors that allow OpenAI or Midjourney to snip out stored content from their models at the content owner's request.

Thank you for making my argument for me, Mr. Lawyer.
