Edit: Oops, I forgot about The Well of Ascension, which follows after the Mistborn series but is before the Wax and Wayne books. So I’d read that one next and then move on to Wax and Wayne, trilogy which starts with Mistborn: Alloy of Law.

The Stormlight Archive series only has three books and won’t be complete anytime soon, but they’re very good reads. The third one got mixed reviews but I enjoyed it. That one starts with The Way of Kings. Different planet, same universe/cosmere as the mistborn stuff (not sure if you’re familiar with cosmere).

I just read The well of Ascension as part of the Mistborn Trilogy. Wax and Wayne books look interesting. Is there a chronological order?

When I read Wax and Wayne it had been six or seven years since I'd read the original Mistborn series. I asked one of my friends something stupid about Vin, like was she a Coin-Shot or what were her powers or something, was just making small talk. He's like "bro she was mistborn, all the powers, remember?" and I had a major DUH moment.

I do think it's pretty neat the different combinations of powers that people wind up with in the Wax and Wayne books. One allomancy and one thaumaturgy (I think).

Sanderson may not be able to write women, but he sure can world-build. That's one of the things that I like so much about his writing. Roshar, in particular, is fucking awesome.

Yeah the whole concept of mixing Feruchemy and allomancy is neat, and the fact that if they share the same metals it's even more amplified. Sandersons' so smort, bless that sweet mormon man

I'm liking it, on the second book now. The idea of coinshots with guns seems like a pretty natural continuation of what we got in the first trilogy. And I like the addition of new alloys and new abilities.

So, it seems like there's no mistborn anymore, did I miss something or is it just the bloodlines thinning out?

Correct; by the time of the Wax and Wayne books, there are no full Mistborn or got-everything Feruchemists. Can’t remember if it’s the bloodlines thinning out, or Harmony deciding that shit needed to be toned down, or if the reason has been specified at all, but people are down to one power per magic, at most.

Almost done with the first Wax/Wayne book,

turning spooks dialect in "high speech" is a great touch.

They keep mentioning Harmony though, was this in previous books or just the name of one of Vins crew?

Finally finished Oathbringer. It's the first Sanderson book I've had trouble finishing, and by far my least favorite. Borderline bad. Still worth reading, but below what I've come to expect from him. Am I the only one thinking this?

I don't know about bad, but I did feel it was not quite up to par, mostlybit was tye characterizations, shalan is just bad, and I struggled with Kaladin too, a guy who supposedly is a great soldier who made sergant or something not knowing the term hand to hand and instead calling it punchy guy is cringe.

Of the 3 Stormlight Archives out so far, Oathbringer was easily my least favorite. It is a toss up between 1 and 2 as to which I like best. With the first two I would damn near marathon read those and found it hard to put the book down. For the third, I could easily pause between chapters. Didn't quite hook me like their predecessors. Still good, just not as good.

I don't believe it's ever actually made clear why this is the case. After the most recent book I'm kind of hoping they get into it, because it's a pretty glaring and obviously intentional piece to be left out.
