Yea I finished it and I like the books. I think Shallan was the one that annoyed me with her schizo stuff.

I did listen to the audiobook so maybe that made it more annoying than reading it.
Shallan is my least favorite character too. She is annoying as shit.

Book 5 is finished!
From Brandon Sanderson:

Finished the last interlude today at 5:21. That is a wrap: Wind and Truth, Book five of the Stormlight Archive, is finished. Tomorrow morning, I'll hand it off to the proofreading and copyediting team. 491k words. The first file I have in my folder for this was dated March 2021, though active writing started about a year after that. So two years and a few months spent working on this full time, with another year of working on the outline. Feeling great about this final version! See you all December 6th. The book, finally, is DONE.

I hope he consulted a team of mental health and depression therapists so he can tell kaladin’s story as accurately as possible again.

Has it really been 4 years since the last one?? Fucking COVID, man. I swear it's irreparably damaged my perception of the passage of time.

Some of it is just age. The days go slower but the years go faster.

Just curious if anyone has read the prologue for "Wind and Truth"? Supposedly Chapters 1&2 are out, but I'm going to hold off. The prologue is Gavilar's last night from his prospective.

I usually don't read the early stuff he puts out just leaves me wanting more now. So I just wait for it to be released.

I am going to reread number four in anticipation. I know dad will have gotten me, my brother, and himself a copy for Christmas, so no diving in right away for me.

Does this pick up right where the story leaves off? Pretty epic stuff there at the end of four so am excited to see where it goes.

Edit: One of my friend's buddies is at the Dragonsteel event and sent this.

First third of this book is really pretty poor. Feels like YA, with a lot of gay angst (literally), lots of inane dialogue, and not near enough epic fantasy. I’m forcing myself to finish it because I hear it gets good later on but the beginning chapters are honestly not good.

Yeah that's about right. The Shallan chapters as usual - do not get better.

The last 30-40% - it picks up like crazy like a usual Sanderlanche. The last 10% especially is pretty insane.

I was so hyped I didn't feel that way about the beginning I suppose, but I finished Wednesday and I loved the ride. Definitely got that melancholy feeling when you finish a book/series and realize you don't have any more to consume for an unknown amount of time.

My Chang tried to warn you, Sanderson turned Modern Audiences on this one, with transgender and non-binary minor characters, and two POV characters that are now not just out gay, but gay for each other, despite zero indication of that prior, in a medieval themed universe where Inheritance of Titles is an explicit plot point.

Personally I didn't find the beginning unreasonably slow, but then again Rhythm of War is a low bar to clear.

And yes, the final 10% entirely flips the table, even if it the most explicit "To Be Continued After This Other Project I'm Doing" I can recall. Actually, Projects - in addition to Mistborn era 3, he's also going back to Elantris and turning that into a trilogy.

His next few projects before the next Stormlight novel:
Ghostbloods (Mistborn Era Three) is up next, and will be my mainline project for the next five years or so. My goal is to write the three books straight through, with only the break for the Rock novella in the middle—
