It’s two out of like a thousand characters… percentage wise it’s probably on the low side.

That’s about the percentage of entertainment that doesn’t have it forced in. Transgender rates in the DSM are less than 1% of the population but in 99% of modern media. How do you explain that?

Spoilers for Wind and Truth

Moash was such a dropped thread in this book. Started out with him set up as this badass foil that Sigzil needed to address with him getting hemalurgic spikes through his eyes etc. He kills Layten and then... That's it? Sigzil joins the now very fashionable trend of renouncimg his oaths and runs off to star in a spinoff novel.

Almost done. Worst Sanderson book I’ve ever read and am actually pissed this shipped how it did. Where and who are his editors? This is just so poorly paced, too long and reads like an in between book explaining the history of Roshar while also having the worst prose imaginable. The other books in this series always suffered from pretty mild dialogue but this is just worse in every single way.

If you told me this was written and edited by Reddit moderators I’d believe you. Man, so disappointing and one of the worst fantasy books I’ve read this year. The final arcs are better and probably the only reason I continue to read because this has taken me weeks to read. For reference I plowed through the Sun Eater books in a few weeks COMPLETELY.

Hopefully the time off of this series gives him perspective, but this series and its hardcore fans (sander-shelf types) and their toxic positivity lead me to think this is now cooked. One of the all time great worlds, magic systems, histories etc, squandered. I am sad, man!

Just finished

I'm struggling to give this one more than a 5/10.

  • I think the only fairly epic moment was Taln going bananas.
  • Backstory of Honor/Odium/Heralds/Humanity were cool.
  • I didn't really need a dozen chapters setting up Szeth's backstory.
  • The mental health over and over and over again wasn't very interesting to me.
  • The syncing of a million different story lines for some big bang is a bit overdone at this point.
  • Having every POV facing certain doom the entire book was a bit exhausting and linear.
  • The showdown between the Odium's Champion and Dalinar was really anti climactic.
  • Mraiz always being a step ahead seemed super unrealistic.
  • The random oath breaking stuff at the end seemed dumb - plenty other interesting ways to get out of those situations
  • The impact/ramifications of Odium effectively controlling Roshar seemed like it really didn't get as much airtime as it needed. Felt like the ending was more focused on off-world setup (which I'm not invested in as a reader) and less on the world they've spent 5 books building up.

Adolin pov - good
Dalinar pov - good
Sigzil pov- meh/boilerplate
Renarin pov -awful
Shallan pov - ok
Jasnah pov - mediocre
Kaladin/Szeth pov - ok
Venli - awful

Honestly, people that continue to buy his books are why they've went to shit. Dude has completely gone against his previous style of writing and the content is about on par with Rothfuss garbage. I finished on Book 3 and will not buy the rest of his shit...just like with Rothfuss. Sanderson has just decided to shit on his audience for money and because he's run out of good ideas. I won't waste good money on shit product.

Run out of good ideas? Get the fuck out of here dude.

Im not done with the book, and it’s definitely not great - the fact I haven’t burned right through it is evidence of that.

Out of good ideas though? Sanderson builds worlds and magic systems unlike anything else I’ve seen in the industry. He’s got plenty of good ideas. He’s just ideologically cucked, unfortunately.

Sooooo, I'm seeing people don't like it? lol that's not surprising. That team of therapists intro to his last book put this shit on the back burner for me. If I wanted to read something from a team of therapists I'd have a subscription to psychology journals. Lots of authors go through a retarded phase. Hopefully its not permanent like George RR's.

Think I'll pass.

So how many cucked people have great ideas? Sanderson HAD great ideas and systems. That doesn't mean he still does. And that doesn't make great writing either. It's the combination of most of the parts. His books have been at best average for a bit now but people don't want to think about it. He still has lots of ideas. There are surely even some good ones but he won't be able to complete the package because of his flaws...which he had before now if you are the least bit honest. Dude does a terrible job of writing interactions between people. His best work is the later Mistborn books and even in those there's a lot of cringy schtick you have to wade through between the action scenes. Kaladin's mopey PTSD whines between the action elements are awful. Not as bad as some of the other characters but it gets tiresome by book 2. Shallan, Renarin, and Jasnah sections are all usually pretty terrible. Just some examples, not all.

There’s a reason there’s not a lot of books about fantasy therapist brigades. Because no one wants to read that shit.

I've attempted to read Oathbringer(3rd book) twice before and couldn't get through it. Now that he finished the first half of Stormlight Archives, I thought I'd give it another shot because I've enjoyed the first 2 a lot, and most of his cosmere books, I'm further in than the last 2 times, but damn I'm struggling.

Seeing that the last book isn't that good certainly doesnt motivate me.

First two books are good. Third book has problems but ultimately is decent, but far from great. Book 4 is actually bad. Haven’t been able to make myself read book 5, but I’m sure I will eventually.

That’d exactly how I rate them. I read Book 4 at a B&N over several trips because I was worried that he’d start to flag like every other epic author and 3 was a big downgrade from first 2. Four was so bad that I refused to buy it. I’m at point I’m just going to refuse the waste of time reading as well. It’s sad but I can’t support garbage.

I thought the last 20% of Oathbringer is some of the best of any book.

Book 5 wasn't anything crazy. I think it's problems are in that it's really a book that's about stepping into bringing the whole of the cosmere together. As a singular book it's really not that great. As a piece of the giant puzzle that is the cosmere, I think it's a pretty necessary book. It's still got a lot of humor and neat stuff, it's just not independently a good book. What it does for the cosmere on the whole though, I'm interested to see what happens.

Adolin and supporting cast are great. Szeth Kaladin and Syl have some great interactions. Spiritual realm and Odium stuff is all kind of a let down. Needed more Lift.

I finished the book last night. Wasn't the slog fest I thought oathbringer was. Some of Shallan's chapters I enjoyed. Adolin was probably my favorite character in the book.

Ummm. Just picked the latest Stormlight. This isn't good so far. Like REALLY boring 300 pages in.
