Aquaman (2018)

Whew. This movie was ridiculous. I wouldn't say it was terrible but geez. These movies are thrown together by people who don't get comics I think. They just get some pieces and sort of make it up as they go. Ok you get Aquaman, Manta, Ocean Master, Mara... here's their powers. Go.

I have to read up on Black Manta but that whole scene where he's re-engineering shit that is bleeding edge even for Atlantis tech had me cringing hard. They completely did not set that up as something he should be even remotely able to do.

Visuals were great, costume design and all that. Character development was garbage. Plot was silly. Overall I didn't hate it though.

I thought this was pretty entertaining and the visuals were great. Equivalent to a tier 2 Marvel movie and better than Black Panther.

i got tired of telling people none of this was meant to be serious and just for entertainment, but they keep popping up.

Black Manta did look cool I'll give him that. The moral lesson left me eye rolling too. Slaughtering the crew of the sub, repeatedly try to murder Aquaman, literally as he is leaving you and you didn't have to do it. The Dad shot him twice with a rocket launcher within the last 20 seconds and then Manta is like... wait you have to help me!

The dude that plays Ocean Master lives in my town btw. I saw him at the library =p

I liked Jango Fett as the Dad. He was good. The fish trench monster things looked awesome too.

Damn...the actors who play the mother and father in this movie are real aficionados of plastic surgery. They look freaky

i know, that's so seriously racist. it's horrible. we all know that he was internally motivated to work so hard because black folk don't know how to swim. it made perfect sense to me.

This is pretty much what it was, but I liked it heads above other DC movies. The effects were surprisingly not cheesy even though designs surely felt like they should've been. Overall I was pleasantly surprised.

I liked the underwater voices. Nice touch.

weak plot, weak direction and pacing.

First off, Mera is wasted badly. She just shows up and is on board with Arthur for no reason. This totally undermines her character.
They absolutely should have spent time with exile, Xebel, and the Assassination of Arthur.

Atlanna stuff works... but should have been a seperate movie. along with all the Adventure scenes that go with it.

Arthur "wins" by divine right. not by skill, not by thought, not by ability, or even friendship. just divine right. divine right allowing him to talk to fish, and divine right allowing him to claim the Trident.

Final clash is then further made lame, by giant Kraken doing all the work.

A frustrating element here is the "surface vs water" split. Arthur "uniting" them. etc..
yet, the giant gaping flaw here is... Monarchy. Comics are pretty funny like this. "so progressive", yet super heroes are all massive authoritarians. half of them are kings and queens.

There should have absolutely been a discussion on Democracy, republics and monarchies, for Arthur a citizen of the US, to be willing to claim the Throne of Atlantis. What does it mean to be a King? what does it mean to the people of Atlantis? Why a monarchy, and not a Republic? (aside from litteral magic powers.)

oh, and it went with the Thor, alien science instead of literally MAGIC, like in the comics. weird/lame.

Movie was a spectacle.

You guys watch porn for the story and nitpick character motivations?
