How are the servers setup in Korea? For the server meta game of politics, rivalries, drama etc to develop I think that requires multiple individual servers with population caps. Especially so since players will be claiming plots of land for housing. If there was only one huge megaserver like in TESO, I see that creating more problems than it fixes.

For those saying Alpha server will be down when beta is going maybe, maybe not typically Alpha is different build so for that reason they may not do it even just doing localization stuff there be lots of bugs and polish to add.

Wow, 150 bucks. Do I get my Pantheon, er Archeage Poster and Coffee Cup with my donation?
It's definitely expensive but it has store credit and 3months premium sub shit for most of the value, 120$ worth, so like the alpha access is 30$ pretty much(and you get a bunch of random shit like a glider, a title etc). People paid that price with no store credit for EQN Landmark so makes sense they'd pay for this.

The problem is they get people rationalizing about the money, which is exactly what companies do when they try to sell one a boondoggle. You did exactly what they hope in your post, Pyros. It's like when my girl goes shopping and explains to me how much she saved buying the purse for 150 dollars. At the end of the day you still spend that money.

I agree it's worth whatever they can get people to pay, I just find paying that much for a game in alpha a tad crazy, but more power to those who want to fork that over. I hate paying 60 for a game, personally.

It's not just any game, it's a Korean MMO. They have a long and storied history of delivering AAAA (Quadruple A) MMORPGs. And for only $150 you can play the alpha of the localized client of this 2 year old game that bombed in its native land!

I usually tend to pre-order, and almost all the time the collector/deluxe editions...even when there is no alpha/beta attached to them.

Heck, it's not like I'll get much from the alpha really, I won't be playing it when Child of Light, Watch Dogs and Wildstar come out.

I played the Russian version and liked it, so I knew I'd play this...I always subscribe(I do for Rift and SWTOR whenever I go back to playing them) and the credits for cash shop are nice...especially if that's a $75 value like they mention.

Good breakdown of the different founders packageshere.

tldr
Subtracting the monetary values of the sub/store creds, you end up paying $15/$20/$30 for:

  • beta/alpha access, which gets wiped afterwards at release
  • 4 day Headstart
  • Easier levelling perks you eventually undoubtedly replace
  • Cosmetics

Really not seeing the value in these packages, which is unfortunate because I really want to play this game haha.

Game isn't really in alpha though, it's a game released 2years ago, the only thing in alpha is the translation and a few of the mechanics.

I do get your point, and I personally don't feel it's worth it because there's no fucking way I'd spend 120$ on a game item's store, at least not in one go like that(probably spent 100+bucks on LoL over a year and a half duration and obviously mmo with subs I spent more, like wow probably 300$ in subs over the years). But there is some stuff of value on that pack, it's not as bad an offer as landmark was because ultimately, you still get 120$ worth of shit in the pack. That's why I'm not surprised people are spending money on it.

Edit: Good list InterSlayer, but headstart isn't wiped, it's headstart and that's probably the biggest thing you want to buy. 4days headstart in a pvp centric game with limited ressources is like, a huge thing. I know I'm buying the smaller pack at least, even though most of the other fluff is useless.

the give you 3 month patron status maybe founder priceing on patron sub, they give you so many trion credits like 13k no idea how much there worth.

Whoops, didn't realize i grouped the betas and headstart. thanks for catching that.

Also I am a Landmark backer. I was also a Planetside2 AlphaSquad backer (same preorder type deal for F2P) and it was an amazing, amazing deal even to this day a year and a half after release.
I am holding out hope SOE surprises Landmark backers and adds more value to the packages. If they don't, then yeah it was a mostly shitty deal and will stop me from doing the same in the future for SOE early access stuff.

I bought in at $150, from personal experience playing every game currently in beta or just released it's worth it to get it now for some fun on the NA side, plus dont mind contributing to a sandbox game that Ive already played and seen with my own eyes. The world needs more mmorpg with AA's more sandbox features not less.

i dunno if AA is giving any friend beta keys or how early but if it is you can make back some money, I bought the landmark founders pack and made back $60 selling the 4 beta keys i got

won't bother with AA though, i tried the russian version and while it was ok it just kinda reminded me of a TERA/FFXIV/Aion mashup, I'm sure it'll be fun but i can just wait for the launch and play for free. yay f2p!

If there was no character wipe between alpha and live I would be more inclined to fork out $150 but since that almost certainly will never happen I will pass for now.

Know very little about AA as I haven't played at all, but from early research the land grab head start gives you is massive. You can claim areas in highly saught after spots with regard to being in safe areas next to key PvP bottlenecks etc

The head start should be staggered at each tier.

This was an easy $150 spend for me. Very easy.
Yeah I'm going to pony up. Doing everything I can to try and avoid the 20% UK surcharge but I keep getting closed down. Tried opening an MOL account but they have a $125 limit. WTF open up a new delivery channel that you can't use. Rixty option on Trions site isn't working so I'm out of options. It's looking like I'll have to pay $190 for a $150 purchase.

Miss Voss having praised you so highly earlier in this thread I'll now suggest you need to get on to this. Your Glyph system checking on Paypal base vrs country registered for account is a level of security too far probably born of you being burned by poor security in Rift. Let Paypal do their job, it's why we use them.

Very smart business move by them. Sounds like they are doing alpha/beta just like Rift. Months of learning the game on best way to level, best resources spot and a ton of other shit is a huge advantage in a PVP focused game. You aren't really paying that much for the access itself but are pre-ordering Trion currency and monthly subs. You also have to ask yourself if you would be willing to pay $60 for this game and sub for several months. If you are then it's an easy decision. Good timing by them too to announce this right before everyone's ESO subs are about to expire.
