I can back this statement, there are plenty of situational combos, but some of the best ones (triple slash + 50% dmg on movement imparied targets) (Resurgence>Mend>Antithesis +healing combo) are definitely going to be prioritized higher than say: Earthquake>Whirlwind ae knockdown which takes both setup and situational placement.
Earthquake Whirlwind is pretty good, if you have shadowplay for backflip instant cast earthquake. Snap camera so your back is turned to your enemy, backflip into him, snap again, earthquake, whirlwind, good opened for a melee. Can shadowstep into rush+triple blow for the same effect and less reliant on luck but both are perfectly fine combos and you'll probably want to chain both in a row anyway so you get both perforation and phantom blow while the target's on the ground.

But yeah, the quality of the combo is more important. Sorcery gets a lot of combos(combos with itself) but a lot of them are fairly useless other than pve. Bard also gets a lot of self combos which are useful but mostly exclusive with each other, you can only run one song at the same time I believe so having like 4songs and riff might give you 4combos, but you're only using one of these at any given time.

The social dynamic on the single server so far is very interesting. I get the feeling there are more Eastern players than Western, but more importantly the East has a lot more cohesion to its Alliance whereas the West treats the game as open world PVP exclusively against their own faction. Western guilds will only ever attack other western guilds / piracy in the ocean and never even touch the east. Any attempt to try and wrest control back is met with "fuckin carebear this aint WoW" and as a result the West controls nothing.

I actually just witnessed some Western players trying to pvp against Eastern players only to get attacked by members of their own faction...

FYI Questing seems to go by pretty fast if you spam click through ever quest blob and cutscene then round up and blow to hell whatever the arrow is pointing you at.

In my experience

Questing (with hiddens and cutscene skipping) > AOE Grinding >>>> Questing/Farming >> Questing (Noob) > Farming (exclusively)

Aoe grinding is faster in certain high density spots, the respawn rate is super fast in the game. Questing is definitely fast though, and really all leveling is. Definitely want to skip all the quests besides MAYBE the story quest, but since that's not translated yet might as well skip it too atm. Farming would actually be good xp if you had infinite labor points, the potato thing(plant then uproot instantly) is extremely good xp but you need several golds per level and you need several full bars of labor per level, so not particularily viable. Great way to dump your labor points and get some xp for it though.

@Qhue, I agree with you East is definitely more populated and more organized.

I get the feeling that already existing guild went East while most guild on West side just seem to be pick up guilds that are not organized.

I'm 40 now on West side, and I constantly encounter group of 2-3 guilded players from the East. I almost never see group of guilded players from West playing together...it's always a bunch of soloers.

Makes doing content on West side somewhat challenging. I've been kinda lucky personally with Peaceful time happening a lot during the time I've been there so far.

I was at war defending once in the west and while the east had more numbers, we were doing ok with our guards helping until 2 guys from our faction turned purple and tip the scale of the battle. I understand that's the nature of the game...but I found the experience a bit disappointing.

I guess the first month or so of the game is gonna be really awful with the stealing and killing of the same faction while players are just trying to become pirates.

So doing a quest where you gotta use a key to open a cage and talk to NPC. Finish talking to NPC, don't read quest text, cage closes on me and the key has been used...

I agree that the western side of the alpha server has a distinct lack of large scale influential (loose term) guilds.

East has Ruin, Oran Thul, DVS, Red, Cohalition, PRX. To name a few from what I could see.

West has Enclave, Nui bro-hood (not sure on this one), bloodsworn (Or what I could tell was bloodsworn) and a slew of auto-invite RP/PVE guilds.

I'm sure when more servers open up for beta (if they do open some up) we'll see the power scales tip a bit.

It's a shame because some of these eastern guilds have had a foothold on the Alpha server WELL before the founder packs released. Coalition and Oran Thul have castles already.

All I know is I see nui bro's and oran't's every where I go. I cant even take a shit in some bushes on some small hidden island without seeing one of those guild tags floating around.

On another note, just to see what it was like, I did the swim for the banana turn in. Three hours later I completed it.

That's straight up admirable, how did you not get fked by sea slugs and jellies? And did you manage to actually get your nanas into the vendor without getting bandited?

My bros straight up rush a fast boat build early on to make this easier.

I'm playing on the West in a fairly large, organized guild. Usually 25+ people on at any given moment. We mostly spend our time pirating at sea.

f'ed up thing was we had a clipper built by next morning but it was more the lets see if we can do it than anything else. Me and another guildmate started off swimming. The following happen (both of us in our mid 20's).

1. Jellyfish attacks by range about 8% of the way there. We had our mounts out swimming next to us in a chance to grab agro. It worked thankfully because after getting smacked, dropping to 10% health, the jellyfish went on to tag our mounts allowing us to dash swim out away from it.

2. About half way there, 20 to 30 mins of swimming maybe, we had to shake and bake a whole line of sea bug / beetles

3. Whew almost there we can see the Western shore line. At least four to five large ships or clippers go by and a row boat here and there. We dip under the water. Here is where I fucked up. I started suffocating out of oxygen. Thought I was fine just under the surface riding the water but no you need to be head fully out of the water. Still in the deep part of the ocean my pack dropped all the way down. My buddy had a outlaw buff on him, as I stayed on my corpse watching him, he was swimming over to a empty rowboat when one of our own eastern faction peeps, Obsidian Fear, rolled up on their clipper dropping him thus sending him directly to trial and 28 mins of jail time.

4. I released back on the Eastern continent but made the swim again to my pack. Remember you can see your grave site of your most recent death on the main map. Once I got there I had to swim down, pick up the pack, and move it over to a hill / knob under the deep waters suffocating probably five times, moving it 20 meters each time or so, till I had it on a high enough underwater hill to pick it up and still reach the surface with out drowning. Thankfully I was respawning on the closer western side or I would have gave up.

5. Finally make it to the Western land. I was south of the Throne of the Crescent / quest turn on the docks. Of course I get jacked in the water cove there by a glider pker from the Western faction after already dodging sharks and other players on boats

6. Ok almost there, you dont have to turn in the pack to get the large scarecrow quest completed, just swim with the radius of the quest line. Some Nui sorc blasts me from the docs just a hair away from completing. Came back one more time, got the pack, swam in the radius to complete it and said fuck the gilda star.

So it can be done but I would advise waiting on a clipper.

On the banana thing, I saw a reddit post saying the "safe" way to do is using the donkey and just swimming right under the sea level on it or some shit, it moves relatively fast. I haven't bothered doing the quest yet. Other way is to try to find people who are going there, but obviously that doesn't help if the guys escorting you decide to kill you right before the turn in and jack your pack. Definitely a quest you want to rush at launch as the longer you wait, the more likely it'll be camped.

You could wait for your boat but if you get boat jacked and they destroy it, you're probably not going to use your boat for like a week since you need 10k alchemy to make the item to repair clipper boats and that shit will take a while, plus you'd have to pay a fee to whoever you're buying it from. On top of that the sooner you have your large farm the better and going boat first means you need 300logs in addition to the 300 for the farm.

Who in here takes advice from reddit posts?

That fucking banana dock is permanently camped by reds looking to make a quick buck, and they do. Some of them make 50g a night just trolling nerds trying to turn in their nanas.

Best to just get the auto complete for yolo sailing into the dock then take your ass-jacking and go get your large farm. Don't bother wasting 2 hours swimming for 2gold/1gilda star.

I agree though, large farm rush at launch will be ideal, assuming you can band together with your 5man and claim some small farm land in ideal protected positions near crafting terminals.

PS: Make sure you get a 5 man family for release, set your farms to family owned so everyone can farmville them while you're at work or having sex or whatever you're doing. Maximum uptime on your crops is important, so banding together will be very valuable.
