Is the castle siege part of the north continent in yet? I saw a guy messing with the assault buggies in town, and I could just picture how fun a full huge pvp fight would be with them.
So the castles are interesting. From what I understand based on how the vendors sell items and what I have heard in guild chat and seen from player housing, "castles" probably aren't what you are thinking.

There are control points in the open PvP areas of the world. If you capture them, you own the immediate vicinity around them (its a large circle around the control point). Owning the capture point allows you place buildings there, tax the buildings and livestock/crops grown there, etc. Some of the buildings you can place are castle walls, towers and gatehouses. You don't really "take" a castle, as much as you "take" a capture point, then surround it with connecting walls and towers to defend it. Then, you build a town inside of those using the normal rules and features for player housing. The walls will help you defend your capture point with fewer people. Said differently, the "castle" isn't really the capture point itself. It simply consists of defenses that you build around your capture point to help you keep control of it and make it harder to steal your stuff.

This is all pieced together from my limited experience, but I think its pretty accurate. If I find out something is different, I'll post.

Edit: Also it doesn't seem like there will be much for trion to do besides translation, nothing really seems to scream "change for western audiences" besides that.
I haven't seen anything that make me think "this needs to go for NA."

Almost all here on the boards liked some stuff in Tera to start and the eye candy, hell even me, and normally I hate Asian grindy games.
So for like the 1st 30 days alot felt it was ok, but then they got the grind, so there was no end game, well we all know the rest.
If what you mean by "end game" is repeatable, interesting and fun dungeons and raids for you and a group of friends to progress through, I don't think that ArcheAge will fill that role. I could be wrong, but nothing that I have seen in game or in streams or read in guild chat or online has lead me to believe that the game has a strong PvE raid centric end game similar to WoW or EverQuest. Yes, there are large mobs that take a raid to take down, but they are almost certainly "Korean style" and not "WoW style." Get 80-400 of your closest friends and zerg the huge massive thing down. Oh yeah, don't stand in fire.

I think the content in this game will appeal more to the Shadowbane/Darkfall/Ultima crowd (FFA PvP) and the SIMS/Star Wars Galaxies (player housing, farming, leveling mounts and pets), rather than the FoH style raiding / progression crowd.

I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

Last post for today, but speaking of the raid content, here is the video of a failed raid vs one of the biggest world bosses...the Kraken. You have to get a fleet together to ram it / cannon ball it down (in game footage, watch in high def):

And the first siege test that they did back in Closed Beta 4 (in game footage highlights, watch in high def):

One more video showing the sheer scale of PvP and the impact that gliders has in it. From the same guild that put together the castle seige video. Shows more naval combat though. Starts off with their ship getting jumped at 1:30 and the retaliation that occurred afterward, starting with them boarding a larger ship with a small fast one to take it over. This video is from like 4 weeks ago, so pretty recent.

I try not to get too excited about MMOs since lately the vast majority play like a Barbie dress up sim, but if what you wrote is true, I may actually get excited about this one.

So what's the deal with this? Is the beta for Koreans only? I've seen videos of americans and other non-Koreans in the beta. How can one do this? Loved me some SWG back in the day and this has my interest.

The Korean version launched last month. Trion is doing the western publication of it which they just announced. No dates have been given about anything from Trion and as far as I know there is no external beta set up yet.

If you want to play the Korean version ask Oloh how to get that to work. I think you have to kill a North Korean baby and steal their SSN.

Got a couple PMs for this and happy to help folks get it set up, but a few threshold matters:

1. All in, its like $40 a month.
2. Takes about a week to set up.
3. No English patch at all, so you will be playing "blind" so to speak.
4. You have to install the Korean language pack on your PC and it is very helpful to install Google translate on your web browser.
5. You need a lot of patience.

If you think "sounds good" and want to know how to set it up. PM me.

No idea. I clicked the wheel in game and kept clicking until I saw a page with a bunch of sliders and a game resolution drop down. I changed the resolution to what I wanted and moved all sliders to the right, figuring that was highest. It looks good, but I'm sure its not optimized or anything. I can't even understand "Hi, my name is Oloh" let alone "8x multi-sampling" in Korean.www.archeagesource.comis good resource, although if you ask a lot of questions they will get annoyed.

I have no idea if this is accurate:http://arche-age.info/classes

Some class infoz.

Class Calculator:http://archeagescandinavia.se/skillcalc.html

?
Yes, that first site is junk and totally wrong. The Scandinavian Class Calc is not totally up to date, but is the best English version out there. Here is the best site:

www.archeagesource.com

Specifically, this post:

http://archeagesource.com/topic/1092...-cbt5-english/

If you go there, you will have the best available information that any U.S. non-korean speaker has.

Source forums are usually cesspools. That link is good though if you want to go through the skills. Sounds like a class system that Rift should of had.

Is there some benefit to claiming one of the "Areas" on the north cont? Or is it merely the fact of saying you have one.

In a sense is there a reason to have a city/town built/claimed other then just to do it? Maybe resources, certain npcs, quest etc.

There are limited spots to place a house in the world. Aside from it being desirable to have a house to show off all your goodies, the only way to protect your resources is with a scarecrow that I believe can only be placed near your house. You can grow stuff anywhere, however, but it can be stolen. So, when you hear people finding and stealing from a grove or farm, its because the owner of the resources was trying to farm something to make money (usually in some remote area), but didn't have a house. Those with houses will be able to make more money with less theft than those without.

Even if growing resources isn't you or your guildies thing, someone will 100% want that property because it is in short supply. Since you control the taxes on the area you control, you can simply take it over, hold it and rent it out via taxes, making money on what is grown without doing anything other than being strong enough to hold the capture point.

Of course, PvP guilds will want to hold as much property as possible, just to win. So, you will have those motives as well.

That is my understanding at least. Again, I am working to get to a level where I can meaningfully participate in these systems, so all of this is subject to further clarification once I am there.

This is the game I want with spaceships. Le sigh.

Oh well, pirate ships may do if the NA localization is passable enough.
