It's probably been covered somewhere in this thread, but does anyone have a recommendation for better recovery from sore tendons / tendinitis? In my left arm, the tendon that runs underneath my elbow to upper forearm is constantly sore. I think it's mainly from pec deck on chest and bicep curls, but also get noticeable pain on a lot of tricep work. I've never been big on supplemental stuff besides protein powder, so if there is a BCAA or Fish Oil or something that can help, would definitely love some suggestions.

Elurin, have you tried checking for used equipment once a day or so? I've heard from other people that it isn't too difficult to find massively discounted stuff like dumbbells on craigslist. It's prohibitively expensive to ship so people don't really use ebay to sell that stuff.

Sounds like you have either lateral or medial epicondylitis. The best recovery is always take some time off. If you don't rest, it will never recover. After you feel better, strengthen your arm muscles. You might want to see a professional for the condition because it will just continue to worsen over time.

That's the strange thing. Wife got pregnant, I got lazy 2nd and 3rd trimester and stopped lifting completely. So was off 5-6 months. Started back up a month ago and after a week or so, immediate soreness, same as before the break.

You need to start low weight and do some remedial exercise to target the specific muscle group. Stretching and heat are also important for recovery. However, without an assessment, I couldn't tell you what to do exactly, so you should go see a physio.

It's probably not tendinitis then, it's probably osteoarthritis

From how he's describing it (runs underneath my elbow to upper forearm), it's not osteoarthritis. OA would also hurt regardless of workout. But again, I haven't done an assessment on him.

Yeah, unfortunately the area I live in is pretty small and there isn't much. We'll see if anything comes up in the next few months though.

Fair enough but tenidinitis wouldn't come back that quickly so it's something more chronic.

Could be tendonosis. Most people who think they have tendonitis actually have tendonosis (especially weight lifters).

And tendonosis requires some kind of activation of the tendon to help heal. Doing some light weight work might be what you need.

I lifted pretty heavy in high school, and every time I attempted to lift heavy again later in life (I'm 31 now) I would get what felt like tendonitis in the front of my shoulder. This would discourage me from lifting, and I wouldn't pick it back up again.

Last year when I started going to the gym regularly I resolved to lift lighter weight with slow, controlled repetitions and a heavy focus on form and movement. This time around, I didn't get the tendonitis pain even when I started doing heavier weight and fewer reps per set. (I never had my shoulder looked at, so I can't say for certain that it was tendonitis, but that's what it felt like.)

I've been lifting with modest regularity since August of last year (Aug-Oct, Jan-Mar, May-current) and have yet to experience that pain again. I still get DOMS when I start a new routine or hit the gym hard after a long break, but nothing I would describe as tendonitis.

tl;dr: Try lower weight, and don't increase the reps to compensate for the difference in volume. It worked for me. Hopefully it will work for you too.

It's a piece of shit that'll probably fall apart if you try any serious trail riding. But for just over $200, who cares?

Is anyone here using a preworkout drink? I just bought one today for the heck of it. The reason why I've never used them is that I get cold sores, and these drinks are loaded with Arginine.

Thinking about getting:
Amazon.com : Schwinn High Timber Mountain Bicycle, Matte Black, 29-Inch : Sports Outdoors

for general purpose onroad/offroad cycling. I'm 6'2". I probably won't use it a lot. Thoughts?
Looks good if you won't use it much, i'd get close to the grand range if it's something you're gonna get into. REIs in house Novara brand is pretty high quality for the price. This xmas my wife and I are gonna get ourselfs a couple Novara's and a couple kayaks. We rent kayaks at a local place now but it's really fun, and a hell of a workout to boot.

I think I've posted it before, but I switched to making my own. 200mg caffeine pill, and Bulk Supplements creatine and beta alanine. All ordered off Amazon, and probably 1/3 of the cost of a premade PWO.

Once I run out of the creatine and beta alanine, I'll probably just go with the caffeine pill. I feel like the effects of creatine and beta alanine are pretty marginal.

OK, I took the preworkout and it made the workout not so bad. I've increased my poundages by 10% and volume by 35-40%. I've been making some gains, it's just tough to get through it.
