PROJECT 880: THE AVATAR THAT ALMOST WAS | CHUD.com

Original scriptment was more anti-corporation than pro-environmental, but it seemed to have more depth than what the film turned into.
You might not like it because it uses familiar themes, but I wouldn't callAvatarshallow. Sure, the dialogue is a little cheesy at times and it doesn't star a bunch of Oscar winners, but it has a real visceral quality that a lot of movies these days lack.

It was a terribly written hippy love fest with cliche characters doing the same cliche shit all hippies do, but this time they were in ~3D~ furry cosplay.

I know you're trolling, but this is a really fucking stupid comment. Avatar wasextremelyshallow. The bad guys were absolutely one dimensional assholes, that had no redeeming qualities and were full of "evil" cliches. While the Na'vi had all good qualities, even if those good qualities were diametrically opposed (Peace loving hippies....with brutal warrior culture honor. Okay.)--Because Cameron didn't care about depth, he wanted clear good and bad guys, and used every cliche he could throw at it to get those lines as defined and apparent as possible.

The movie was of similar depth as the Star Wars prequels. The corporate guy may as well have been the Darth Lord, and the general his apprentice. Was absolutely retarded.

And what's worse, is that these kinds of movies constantly portray less advanced cultures in this hippy light. When nothing we know of more primitive cultures reflect that, at all. In fact, it reflects theoppositeof that. Native Americans were extremely violent people in terms of tribal warfare. Cameron could have just shown that, and trusted that characters with depth could have good AND bad qualities, and still appeal to the audience with good writing (District 9), but nope--he went for shallow as possible.

"and the two cultures resolve their differences."? There wouldn't be a 2, let alone 3 and 4

They're going to market it to the people who ate up that shit. Remember the news articles about people suffering from from ''Avatar depression''? Expect more of the same shit: 'Humans are bad', 'Cat-nose blue sparkle people are good'.

Avatar was only entertaining with the audio turned off, and an album of a drunken German Oompa Loompa orgy playing its place.

I felt that Avatar wrapped up and finished as a stand alone film. All the main story lines and character arcs were completed.

And then they say they will be making a bunch of sequels.

Do the humans try to come back?? Well likely, but realistically they would return with knowledge from their prior experience, so they'd only return using a scorched earth policy. Cook up their own telling of events and portray the Navi as something more like the Aliens (Alien film series). Tsar bomb the fuck out of the place.

Can't see them getting a long film out of that, unless it all plays in super slo-mo perhaps.

But in truth I'll wait and see.

i saw avatar once in the theater never on video, the story and characters were laughable. though all the visuals were amazing. still trying to figure out how a floating island up in the sky has a waterfall.

There's some logic to the floating mountains. Explained somewhere, can't be bothered looking for it myself

But it goes along the lines of unobtainium being some super-conductor, explaining its value. And the super-conductive effect can make them repel each other like magnets (or something) so the mountains float.

And still be a normal enough mountain to have internal water-tables so water sources, springs on teh surface, meaning we get waterfalls.

^^Yeah something like that.

Also a question, the Avatar is linked to Jake or who ever is controlling theirs. There must be some direct signal link from the base to the Avatar and back to enable control and force-feedback etc. So some high data rate link going back and forth.

But there's area of Pandora where the electromagnetic field is so strong that the helicopter's guidence and sensor gear simply doesn't work. But the avatar signal has no fault.

And also how can a planet covered in trees and plants . . . not have breathable air!!

It was a link posted like 2 days ago in this thread.
Unobtanium is a super-conductor that operates at room temperature.
Pandora itself cures the human cold, yet looks at humans as a virus also, which is why animals try to attack them.
Pandora has a magnetic field much higher than earth. This allows the mountains to float. Those mountains are actually the only source of Unobtanium.
Humans want to take out world tree just to "teach the blue monkeys a lesson", not get metal from under it (because there's none under it.)
Avatars were made, not to get Na'Vi to move from Hometree, but to teach them how to work in the Unobtanium refineries. The reason why is it costs "the company" $1,000,000 per lbt just to send things from Earth to Pandora or vise versa. Having the stuff refined removes the junk, causing it to weigh much less.

Humans can't breathe on Pandora because of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. The high co2 levels probably have something to do with solar radiation.
