Movie didn’t need to be three hours long. Action scenes were good.

and yea, anyone who has spent time in Hawaii will definitely be reminded of how obnoxious those ocean Indians (feather not dot) are after watching this movie

Movie is just a beautiful tech demo. It's basically the same movie as the first one but even better looking. I didn't get bored, it was easy to watch but I did get the feeling that I'd really prefer to be doing something else. And it looks like the third movie is probably going to be the same movie yet again with the same villain.

Yeah, even if this movie gets close to where they want it to be box office wise, it's hard to see how Avatar 3 can even come close if they don't make the story a lot better. 13 years since the last Avatar, there's plenty of people who were willing to go for the visuals but I'm not so sure that will be the case two years from now.

Can't even hire writers to improve the story since it was all done concurrently, imagine the debacle if they did start reshooting 3/4 for a completely different narrative.

I was entertained. Visually stunning (2d showing) and good action. Some parts felt like almost direct reshoots from the original (sully vs black panther and sully kid vs shark) but overall it was different enough that i didn't feel like i was watching Pocahontas/Dances with Wolves yet again.

Oddly enough I found Sigourney's kid interesting and think she's going to be Jesus summoning all of aiwa's power in the ultimate series finale. My wife, however, hated her.

There are 18 year olds that dont even know what Avatar is lol. So insane with the 13 year gap. Ill probably end up going to see it though.

Someone saw this in 2D?

The 3D HFR made it feel like it was more a 3 hour long theme park ride and less a movie.

50-60% drop for second weekend. Surely being affected by the cold weather and Christmas Eve falling on a Saturday, but still not an impressive hold versus Cameron expectations.

Wow... Why did I subject myself to that? And in 3D too.

Here's the game we played after the movie-- sum up the Avatar 2 in 10 seconds or less:

the winner: "Every James Cameron movie rolled into one plus Star Trek IV and kiddie porn."
runner up: "The prequel to Avatar 3"
honorable mention: "The blacks were green. Why are there no gay Navi?"

It was too long and too sappy. And seriously, too much kiddie porn...
