I spent way too much of my teenage years on gold box games and NWN in AOL. Good times.

The odds of it happening are zero, but if we were to ever get a game set in Dragonlance, the force of the nostalgia might literally kill me.

Dragonlance wouldn't work all that great due to it lacking a well-built world. Its strength was just its characters.

Dark Sun would be sweet, but it has some pretty hefty setting issues that might make for poor gameplay.

I've beaten BG1 twice, with many, many more failed playthroughs. If they could improve the interface beyond what they did with the Enhanced Version with a new story, sign me the fuck up.

Give me anything like BG2 and you can shove that shit right up your corn hole.

You hated the BG2 interface that much? It wasn't that much different than BG1's.

That said, it's going to be a Larian interface and if you want an indication of what that could look like just look at Original SIn 2's inteface.

I've played BG/BG2 more times than any other singleplayer game. The amount of replayability is massive due to the library of mods ( List of BG2EE Compatible Mods )for what is really an impressive engine even by modern standards. The recent Enhanced Edition revitalized the community and now it's easier than ever to put together a ridiculous stack of mods using their tools ( EET Install Tool BWS-EE ).

I never played Divinity: Original Sin, but I did play Divinity II and have been meaning to play Original Sin. I'll definitely play BG3 at release.

Well, I mean, it is Larian studios. Larian studios, IMO, has taken BioWare's place as the king of the RPG market. That said, I could never really get into BG or BG2. I tried, I think I finished them both. I think I was more into FPS games at the time.

It should be really interesting to see how they do with BG3, if that's what this is.

Always nice to see an A studio throwdown, and bitch slap a AAA dev studio. Now if we could just get them to work on a proper ME sequel, that'd be great.

Kinda like what Obsidian did with New Vegas

FYI there were Dragonlance and Dark Sun CRPGs waaaaayyy back in the day. They are on GoG.

They have all the Gold Box series available as well. Remasters of all these would be cool:

I remember the ravenloft one. There was something about it that made it really neat. Some innovation that went standard.

I forget what it was, but that one had one great idea in it.

Games used to be like that. Simpler times.

How about a Dark Sun crpg. That shit would be cool as hell.
The gold box Dark Sun games were great back in the day. Wake of the Ravager and what not. Would kill for a new cRPG in that setting. Best setting and my favorite after Ravenloft.

Dark Sun was awesome on PC. Buggy as shit as I recall, but loads of fun. I don’t think I ever came close to finishing either one of them.

Great music / animation / voices for the time it came out.

Until we see otherwise I believe that while they might use the BGIII title or whatever it will be nominal. The game will just be set somewhere in Faerun. BGII was in Athkatla. I do not believe the Baldur's Gate title restricts them in any way when it comes to story or anything. Maybe we'd see the return of Minsc and some of the other favorites here and there. But that's about all I expect.

It's possible we'd be getting another Time of Troubles game though. Which could be cool.

Do you guys think BG has aged well enough to pick it up and play it as a newcomer in 2019? For whatever reason I never really tried Baldurs Gate 1 or 2. I vaguely recall installing BG1 when it was relatively new, but the D&D systems were so unlike the RPGs I was accustomed to that it felt like I needed an encyclopedia to even understand the skill descriptions. Granted, I was pretty young and was completely addicted with EverQuest, so I definitely didn’t give it a fair shake.

Now that we have google and wikis, maybe it’s worth seeing what I missed out on 20 years ago? (As an aside, I picked up Temple of Elemental Evil when it released and really enjoyed it. I think it had more video game friendly systems though?)

BG2 is a much bigger and better game from BG1. You don't lose much from not playing BG1. It has a staggering amount of content.

You will not be disappointed. If you don't want to miss anything play while referencing a guide here and there.

I still play bg2 every couple years ever since it came out. Probably played through it 30-40 times by now.
