Don't neglect the compass calibration, and make sure to do it in both locations if you go from SD -> NC.
Did you happen to order it from EZ drone?
I ordered from Amazon because I had a decent amount of credit and points from my card.

They promised a Saturday delivery and now it looks like Monday.

They got my hard case to me on time ...

Looks like a good case. I don't think I'd roll it, though.

If you're so inclined, you could swing by EZ drone in San Diego. 2 of the guys started a shop up here in Portland, and they do some pretty good mods to drones, which can double the effective range. They're also a licensed repair center, I believe.
They used to share an office with Peau Productions, which makes some of the cameras I've been testing for NDVI. It's a good little cluster of drone-oriented people to meet, depending on what you'll be doing with the Phantom.

Got it today. Just did the basics, hit a tree, no damage. Loving it so far.

Will do some real flying next week back in NC. I am going to try and swing by that shop on the way to the airport tomorrow but doubt I have time. I will look for a good shop in Raleigh.

Just out of curiosity, how'd you hit the tree?

Glad to hear it showed up. Let us see some videos.
It was dark and it was a bare tree and had some real thin branches hanging down all the way to the ground.

Like I said no damage really. They were pressuring me into running it for a few minutes when I just wanted to wait until I got back to NC and had time to train.

Yeah everyone was super excited to see it

When I have some leisurely practice time to set up controls the way I like them and then figure out the sensitivity I will enjoy myself much more.

Yeah, apparently the operator was hovering over the crowd a good bit, so they got pissed and started throwing shit at the drone. Like hats and t-shirts. Sucks about the drone but the idiot shouldn't have been near, let alone over, crowds.

The new registration for "drones" is not very well thought out. Your number goes into an online searchable database that must include your actual physical address and they recommend a phone number and an email adress. Right...

Even the FCC which requires an online database of amatuer radio operators links your name to a specific callsign. Not searchable by names or anything else. Your address (and most commonly is) is a post office box to get your FCC paperwork on a 10 year basis and that's it. They do not require your actual physical address unlike the new drone database.

Even after being in the military and then later working for county governments, I've never seen so much retarderlyness from a government agency.

The more time passes the goofier it starts to sound. The AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics, the big RC group in the US) released this week that they don't know what to do. They host a variety of events that last all summer at their 1000 acre flying facility. Many of the flyers come to compete from all over the world. Oh wait. Ooops the FAA doesn't have anything in place as of yet to allow foreigners to fit into the program to come to the US and fly.

Seems really thought out. The AMA urged it's members to not comply as of yet and see what shakes out.

The FAA rep they talked to kind of floated the idea of having a foreigner wanting to come and fly file out a one time special waiver, wait 3-4 months (or longer) to get it approved then they could fly. Well considering it's like most other international compitions the people who compete are picked on short notice when the qualifiers finish.

Hey man, the government needs to look like its doing something. It has to justify those trillions it spends.

Well, we finally got our FAA exemption 333 approved. It's pretty bare-bones considering what I planned to include in it, but at least we have one one file that can be appended.

The AMA received a letter stating that part of this new registration was that 32 RC flying fields in the DC area would be closed to flying after the registration goes into effect.

Told you. There are airports literally everywhere on the east.
