I can see not loving affleck as batman, but to suggest he isn't a great actor is a joke and you lose all credibility
When has Ben Affleck ever not played some version of Ben Affleck? If the role calls for a Ben Affleck, it works out great. If not, not so much. Seriously though, he doesn't have a lot of range.

Still not sure about him as Batman but you have to admit his influence has been great on the script writing, pre-production side of things to counteract some of the idiocy at WB.

Smoking Aces, Extract, and The Town are all good examples of Affleck playing something other than his usual repertoire. Really, is Affleck as Batman any worse than Cavill as Superman? I said it before, Affleck is the least of this movies hurdles to overcome......

I had actually forgotten that he was in Extract. Also generally agree with the idea that while I don't think I would have picked him that I don't think he's the biggest problem or even the worst casting choice. The chick playing WW is wtf.

Smoking Aces was terrible, but he actually was probably the best part -- good example. However, The Town is totally Ben Affleck being Ben Affleck.

I don't have problems with him being Batman, though. He'll at least get it half right at worst. I just don't think he qualifies as a great actor.

I think Ben Affleck being Ben Affleck was his run in Kevin Smith movies. I think as an actor and especially as a writer/director he has evolved to be pretty damn good especially behind the camera.

Not to derail but how many really great actors have been superheroes in the comic book sense? Bale? Downey? Hard to really say I think. Kilmer was close to his peak as an actor when he played Batman as was Keaton but I don't consider either of them great actors.

The only successful combination of great actor and great portrayal of a superhero is RDJ as Ironman, imo. Christian Bale is a great actor but I didn't really like his version of Batman.

If you count comic book enemies, Jack Nicholson as the joker is a huge hit.

RDJ was still pretty early on his comeback/rise to prominence when he did Iron Man. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang got him a lot of love, but he wasn't being viewed as acting royalty or anything at the time. It was Iron Man > Tropic Thunder > Sherlock Holmes all within a year and a half or so that vaulted him up.

Ed Norton Jr. was Hulk, and he's legit as fuck. It didn't work for everyone, but he certainly qualifies as a great actor that played a super hero. Also George Clooney Batman as well=P Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan? Michael Fassbender?

Ledger blows him away, imo. I think both Routh and Cavil were great as Superman and I liked the hipster douchebag as Spiderman. Karl Urban basically WAS judge Dredd, not sure if he counts as a superhero. As much as I hate the movies, Hugh Jackman was basically Wolverine.

there is more then that. but yeah, Bale was not great as Batman really.
I was considering commenting on it, earlier, but didn't bother.

There are great performances, and great portrayals. and the two often do not overlap.

Keaton and Nicholas for Batman.
Neither portrayed their characters very well. but, the performances made up for it.
Hackman and his Luthor. same deal. Couldn't even be bothered to shave his head, but... was so amusing to watch. no one cared.
Nicholas's Joker as the JOKER was shit. But as a villain in that movie. great.

We have NEVER had a great Batman that really nailed Bruce and Batman, since West.
Bale hit it here and there. But like the Batman voice has become a running joke. not because its omg perfect portrayal, but instead because its hilarious.

Don't think this was linked before was it? But look at this shit. :20. That shift in posture, and demeanure.

Reeves obviously nailed it. Snipes did Blade perfectly. New Nick Fury IS sam Jackson... so thats kindof a perfect match...
Urban nailed it.
I also think routh got shafted. He did good with what he had. Cavil also didn't have enough to work with, although he didnt do much with that either.

Jackman is a 6'2" Australian. he sure as hell did not nail the 5'2" Canadian Wolverine.

Not sure if prior to Ironman, Downey was considered a great actor but I could be wrong. I think Bale is a better actor of the two, much more range and I enjoyed his Batman so there is that.

I also preferred Ledger to Nicholson as Joker, Jack gave me flashbacks to the 60's Batman show.

Whatever, hipster, shouldn't you be out listening to your vinyl and buying a new scarf? He nailed that shit. "Oh he wasn't short enough and his regional dialect didn't come out in exactly the way I thought it should. Worst Wolverine ever."

Height of actors is such a silly argument, sure Jackman is not as short as Logan is supposed to be. Watching him become the character he made me forget that wolverine is short. This is a credit to his acting ability imo. As a Western Canadian I can tell you his "regional dialect" was fucking spot on, ie there is basic no regional dialect in Western Canada that sets us apart from the majority of North America. If you are not talking about a ROOF or saying EH, i doubt you can tell the difference!

Speaking of movies compensating for height issues. (spoiled for length and questionable relevance)

Not a big fan of the Wolverine character but I don't even notice the height issue , Jackman plays the role so well.

Argo? How about you back up your claim and show us how he's the same?
