This is just Larson fueled by butthurt over the reboot trying to do things his way. The original series was basically Mormon parable, verbatim. John Colicos (Baltar), Count Iblis, and the theme music are the only parts of the original that stand up to the test of time. The comic books that Marvel and Dark Horse did were actually a lot better use of the original concepts. Anyone thinking of throwing money at Larson should be locked in a room and forced to watch the second Galactica series with the flying bikes, Clockwork Orange style.

could make it a comedy, that would be awesome

or a republican parable. the last true christians are living peacefully on planet Reagan, farming and singing hymns. The evil homosexual Islamic Cylons, led by a black Cylon, invade and blow everything up. The christians are saved by the Jewship, and flee together to the center of the galaxy where God is. At the end of the movie God asks the Cylons if he isn't real then who made them, and this moral paradox causes them all to self destruct.

Yup. Series was fracking amazing until the weirdo Starbuck angle and i was never satisfied with the way they played out the Baltar situation.
That is one thing that bothered me. There's no way that guy would have actually survived in a situation like that. And the fact that he ends up in the final, final scene made me want to punch myself.

I like that Jimmy Hendricks ended the series, though.

I didn't care about the religiosity, I just thought the ending, and pretty much the entire 4th season, was nonsensical garbage.
Yeah, it wasn't about the religion. It was the fact that all their great mysteries turned out to be fracking retarded. Like they had these great ideas but never figured out where to go with them. Angel Starbuck was one stupid thing, but nothing topped how pointless the Opera House turned out to be.

They freely admit to just making shit up as they went along after the first season and a half or so. Eventually they just completely lost track of the story.

Seriously. Those Opera House scenes started in what? Season 2? And it just turned out to be a hallway the fucking kid had to be carried through which I'm pretty sure she was going to run through anyway? Lame. All leading to the grand sequence of events where Chief has to choke a bitch in order to cause enough chaos for Earth to be located randomly by ghost Starbuck. Wonderful.

I wanted the series to end depressing. Like, an even smaller group of humans still running from Cylons. Depress the hell out of me and end credits. Best show ever.

why do surviving few humans struggle over political drama instead of permanent military dictatorship until they are safe?

Because North Korea runs so well?

I mean, you can't honestly be as stupid as you pretend to be. A military dictatorship doesn't work in North Korea and those people are BORN as slaves to the state. Now take an advanced liberal democratic society where people have been taught their entire lives that they're 'free' and then try to take that away from them and see how well it goes.

South Korea did pretty good under military dictatorship.

It didn't work too tell for the Germans. The Nazis spent quite a lot of their time and effort trying to kill each other if you don't recall.
So much time and effort killing each other they didn't rise to become the terror of Europe and the world, yeah, I don't recall

So I started watching this over the weekend at the suggestion of several people, one of whom says that BSG is the greatest TV show he's ever seen.

I just finished the first season and the first episode of the second season. I enjoy the setting and the premise and like the characters that you're supposed to like, but am having trouble really getting into the show because I feel like the subplots are poorly thought out and the scenes are lazy and contrived. I normally have no problem watching silly shows and suspending my disbelief, but this show takes itself so seriously and the subject matter is so serious it's challenging to do so. In virtually every scene I look at what's happening and think, "This is retarded.".

Ex: In the last episode Starbuck runs off to Caprica to get the Arrow (poorly set up and uncharacteristic of her character) and fights the blonde Cylon (who is an annoying character) and ends up killing her (I enjoyed that). Then she meets the asian cylon and flybro and has this drawn out argument that feels like wasting screen time where she contemplates whether "she has to be friends with cylons now." instead of evacing to her space ship and getting the fuck out of there (because she knows that her life and mission is at risk along with the entire fleet because of what she did). Naturally this causes her to lose the space ship (which I imagine will just give the asian cylon a chance at building up her trust or whatever in the next episode). This whole sequence is so contrived and roughly half of the scenes are as dumb as this. The worst ones are the scenes with Doctor Gaius. He's a fun character and really has to carry the dumbest scenes in the show.

Without spoiling anything (plz) is this standard fare and I should just enjoy the stupidity to enjoy this show?

If you're up to that, and that's how you feel, it gets worse, unfortunately you're pretty much "IN" so you might as well finish it. Women who do not like sci fi (my wife, some other girlfriends) seem to like it as well, maybe watch with the wife too (at least then you're doing an activity together)
