Tuco, real talk here.

Sounds like someone overly built up the show for you. BS:G is great, it is by far the best show the sci fi channel has put out. However, it isn't the Wire, True Detective or GoT or something. If you are going to try and break down every single scene in an attempt to tear it apart, it isn't going to stand up to it.

So stop being a popsiclechuk and spending all your time trying to figure out plotholes and reasons to hate it.

Yeah. It isn't the greatest show ever. It's a really good sci fi show.

It gets better. Much, much better than what you've seen so far. Then it gets really, really shitty.

I remember being quite in to the show when I watched it years ago, until the last season or whatever, and then I was like "what the fuck?" Not quite as bad as Lost, if only because the shitty part only lasted a season instead of being dragged out for years.

Mostly what I remember is how bad half the actors in BSG were. There's some pretty good performances from some of the cast, but others were fucking AWFUL. Overall it was a really hit or miss show. Then again, most Sci Fi is.

Yeah this is definitely true. I don't know who decided Helo should be at the center of the one love story that spans the whole series, but that casting director should be shot.

Calling the show hit or miss is pretty spot on. There's plenty of great stuff in the series and plenty of pants on head retarded stuff as well. I'd love for there to be some more big budget Sci Fi that doesn't suck.

Characters and actors were the worst part of this series. Without Olmos, I think this show doesn't make it past the miniseries. I liked Adama and Tigh, and most of the human Cylons bothered me because they just doing Cylon things. But a whole bunch of the main characters on the fleet were just terrible.

I almost suspected at times that Baltar was some running gag about failing upwards. Just couldn't suspend my disbelief that humans would act that way around someone talking to a ghost.

If the mini-series and first few episodes don't grab you enough to trudge through the poor parts of some seasons it might not be your thing.

Still one of my favorite shows ever, but pretty much anytime they're not on ships it goes south a bit.

Tuco, through season 2 you'll experience more one off episodes that really don't make a ton of sense. I remember hearing stuff about network pressure to make the show less serial. I don't really know how much truth there is to that though. Regardless, those episodes are really stupid and an absolute chore to get through. There's 3 of these in a row at the end of season two that are especially bad.

After that things improve though. I'd suggest watching through the first half of season 3 then deciding to go on or not from there. The general consensus is that the ending is really fucking stupid (and I agree with this completely), but it's pretty entertaining all the way up to it. I think seasons 1 and 2 are the hardest to get through though with the first half of season 3 being the show's peak.

So I started watching this over the weekend at the suggestion of several people, one of whom says that BSG is the greatest TV show he's ever seen.

I just finished the first season and the first episode of the second season. I enjoy the setting and the premise and like the characters that you're supposed to like, but am having trouble really getting into the show because I feel like the subplots are poorly thought out and the scenes are lazy and contrived. I normally have no problem watching silly shows and suspending my disbelief, but this show takes itself so seriously and the subject matter is so serious it's challenging to do so. In virtually every scene I look at what's happening and think, "This is retarded.".

Ex: In the last episode Starbuck runs off to Caprica to get the Arrow (poorly set up and uncharacteristic of her character) and fights the blonde Cylon (who is an annoying character) and ends up killing her (I enjoyed that). Then she meets the asian cylon and flybro and has this drawn out argument that feels like wasting screen time where she contemplates whether "she has to be friends with cylons now." instead of evacing to her space ship and getting the fuck out of there (because she knows that her life and mission is at risk along with the entire fleet because of what she did). Naturally this causes her to lose the space ship (which I imagine will just give the asian cylon a chance at building up her trust or whatever in the next episode). This whole sequence is so contrived and roughly half of the scenes are as dumb as this. The worst ones are the scenes with Doctor Gaius. He's a fun character and really has to carry the dumbest scenes in the show.

Without spoiling anything (plz) is this standard fare and I should just enjoy the stupidity to enjoy this show?
Show is absolute garbage after s3 ep4.

The show certainly felt serious at the time, but I think over a decade later, the "NEVARRR FORGET 9/11!!" undertones running through the show probably feel silly.

Idk, personally to me its just so bad after that. The religious retardation just becomes too much and the story line just jumps all over the god damn place.

I wasn't a fan of the Roslin or Baltar characters either. I can see how people might have been annoyed by Six, but I unapologetically give her a pass because Tricia Helfer. She was the Seven of Nine of the series.

Minor characters that were annoying: Olmos' son and Tyrol's wife(but they spaced her, so neutral effect).

Oh, wish they had given old doctor guy more scenes. Doc Cottle? Don't care if his name was oxymoronic or whatever. He was like Space House, always berating his patients.

The series finale was even infuriating. Half of it was some of the best television of all time and half of it was absolutely cringeworthy bad.

The show had its good and bad moments, like every other show. I rewatch the whole thing every few years, still like it, but yeah the acting ranges from fucking awesome to god awful.
The ending was ok, certainly a huge reach but whatever, i've seen some shit (looking at you lost .....yeah)

The thing about it tho is, some of its good moments were ...well ...just that much fucking better than anything that came out of the sci fi channel since .....ever?

Spoiler below, tuco gtfo:

PS can't find any good quality shit for BSG, plergh.
