I ate shit hard on ice not long ago. Nothing serious but it fucking hurt for a minute. I'm not sure there's any tire or fat bike that would have stopped me from sliding out on invisible black ice as I leaned into a turn.

And really, people give a shit about TPI on a mountain bike tire?

That's why I just stick with the gym/trainer in the winter. I know there are plenty of internet heroes who love to brag about how they ride in sub zero temps across arctic tundras, but fuck that. I ate shit hard on ice right at the end of the season too, and I'm lucky I didn't break my kneecap. It was under a small batch of leaves, and I wasn't even going that fast. I'd rather not spend the spring/summer/fall on the couch because I couldn't wait a few more weeks.

To be fair, I don't really ride on ice except on lakes.

Riding on rollers/trainers is really hard but I hate riding in 35-40 degree rain more. Luckily I'm training for a track season so it's usually sub 1 hour sessions for me, roadies can pull 4~ hours on the trainer.

So I bought me a new backpack since my old bag was just too small when carrying lunch+tools+workout clothes+winter gear. Got the MW fitzroy and I must say, it's well worth the price(220 bucks). Padding on the straps are so comfortable and wide and when it's rolled down it's barely larger than my old bag but has the option to expand which practically doubles it's size while still being able to strap down.

A+ on the big fifey ranking.

Edit: here's a picture for reference.

Some random guy gave a friends girlfriend two of those stickers and she had no idea what to do with them so we just made a spokecard out of it for funsies.

I want one of these so bad, too bad they're pretty much all self made around here.

I didn't really need this (because I have a clutch derailleur) but figured it couldn't hurt, and is light as hell (20 grams).

It's aBionicon C-Guide. Seems to work the way it should, though it shipped with the cheapest, shittiest, most brittle ass zip ties I've ever used in my life. I'm out of longer black ties so it looks a tad untidy right now, but I'll sort it out when I pick up some new ones. (So ignore the giant zip tie end on the crank side.) It needs a wee adjustment (it's too high) but I'll take care of that tomorrow as well.

It's a little (ok, a lot) on the flimsy side for $50, but the reviews on MTBR for it are pretty positive.

You are too fast, sir. I re-installed it and came here to re-post the pic, haha.

Here it is again, with a better/cleaner chain line.

I gotta hand it to you, all the red bling against the black really does pop out nicely. (And I see you have your chainstay protector on this time!)

Doesn't race face make bash guards? I think I'd want to match the brand of the ring and bash ring personally. The graphics on that RF ring are sick though.

RF does make bashes, and I actually bought both the FSA one and the RF one when I got it. I stuck with the FSA because it matched my cranks, and it was a wee too much red even for me. I figure it'll at least look nice for the winter, because as soon as spring gets here it's going to be a disgusting, muddy mess 99.9% of the time.

My upgradeitis might be coming to an end on this pretty soon though - a local shop has a leftover CAADX Disc 5 in my size for $800 right now. Not this exact one, but the 2013 version of it.

CAADX Disc 5 105 - ROAD - BIKES - 2014

Took it for a test ride while a buddy was picking up a new Stumpjumper, and the thing was crazy comfortable. It's just a matter of how fiscally irresponsible I want to be after all this. It's a hell of a price though and a lot of bike for the coin.

My main road bike is a 105 AL Felt and I thought $900 was a pretty slick discount on it, so yeah.

That's interesting they up the wheelset to 36 spokes for 58 to 61 cm sizes. Is that a common CX thing?

My road bike is a Felt too. (I have the carbon Z5.) I rode the absolute fuck out of it last season and the only thing I had to do to it was adjust the cables after they broke in. Knock on wood, it's been rock solid. I'm intentionally avoiding upgrade shopping for it, because that shit gets expensive in a hurry.

I don't know a damn thing about CX other than it looks like a friggin' great, filthy time, haha.

Yeah, I haven't even had to adjust my cables and I've put a ton of miles on it in two years. Upgraded saddle, which actually the stock saddle was surprisingly friendly to me, but eventually there must have been a crack in the shell since it started creaking/cricking. Prologo Nago Evo with the solid TI rails has been a great saddle for me, highly recommend their products. Decent price for carbon shell/TI rails, especially on Chainlove.

Also upgraded the rear wheel and got a nice strong build from Bicycle Wheel Warehouse with an Ultegra hub. Finally got around to retaping the bars recently during a snow day. And obviously tires. But yeah, solid bike overall. I spend way more time maintaining my mountain bikes than road, but they take a hell of a bigger beating for sure.

Yep, same here. I did change out my tires at the end of the season (to Gatorskins) and I run the same WTB Pure V Race (40 bucks on Nashbar) on both bikes. It's not the fanciest seat, but my ass likes it and that's all that matters. I figure in a year or two I'll probably upgrade the wheelset, but the stock Mavics that came on it have been fine. It's also my first really nice road bike, and I started the season weighing 230 lbs (I'm at 180 now) so all in all I'm pretty damn happy with it.

I test rode some crazy ultralight thing with Enve wheels and shit on it (it was $12,000, lol) and while it felt insanely light, I didn't think it was $10,000 nicer than the bike I have now. That buys a lot of beer.

I'm sure its a better wheelset than what was stock on mine. After the third broken spoke repair I put the damn thing on ebay and upgraded. The front has been fine, but I guess the back didn't like my 185+ ass pounding it over bumps.

I've had two Pure V Races on my mountain bikes but they both had the stitching come apart eventually. They are really comfy but the older one just got too far undone, other is holding up still for now. Selle Italia saddles seem to hold up really well but I like the Prologo the best of anything I've tried for road comfort.

I hefted a $5k carbon CX bike at a mountain bike event last fall and it was drool worthy. Seriously though, who needs that shit unless you're already sponsored?
