That's a pretty intense ride, and yeah 51mph is nuts, anything over 40 and I start worrying badly about potholes and the like.
Me too, heh. It was somewhat windy, and I didn't really want to go that fast per se. I flicked my eyes to my GPS at 40 and 45mph, and after that I just focused on the road and trying my hardest to resist the urge to touch the brakes. I gave them a tentative tiny tap somewhere in the 40s and got some wobble, so I decided that the best way to slow down to a less ass-clinching speed was to just sit up into the wind a bit. (it worked)

Tip appreciated... I'm not sure I'll ever go that fast but I hadn't even thought of that to slow down.

Had a giant plate of Mexican for lunch, and went out and smashed it when I got home to compensate. This hurt a lot.

Long and short of it is Froome killing it. But its been an intense tour, feel real bad for Tejay.

If you can find it for sale again, I love this thing:Hobo | Swobo
I always have a backpack when I ride (though I'm trying to get away from the habit). Last night I carried two sixers of bottles (bad form!) in their holders, 4 tall boys, 2 pumps, a change of clothes, two halo belts, a phone mount, two tubes, my ulock and a bunch of tools. It's pretty beastly.

I'm also partial to banjo brothers, because they're in minneapolis and the customer service is amazing:Cycling Backpacks | Banjo Brothers
Their stuff is relatively cheap also (relative to Mission, etc).

I always used to use my camelbak or my lowe alpine when I needed slightly more stuff but I recently gotthisand Im never going back to a bag. Far less sweaty, no extra weight on my shoulders when hunched over the bar etc. Comes off the bike easily and holds all my work clothes, phone, wallet and all my tools and tubes etc. Great bit of kit.

Edit to add, imo bag is fine on short trips but my 12 miles each way commute just tips over into too far for a bag

How big of a bag do you need and what's your commute like?
nothing huge, and primarily just my glasses, a lock some snacks and maybe some small items? possible a change of clothes would be good too.
I was looking at some of the timbuk2 bags but figured they're probably not worth it since i don't cycle a whole lot yet.

I use a Mountain Hardware 20L pack. I take tools, pump, tubes, food and 2L of water all the time.
It's for Rock Climbing so it fits very well and leaves you free to move.
I don't notice it's there most of the time AND adds a bit of back protection

I would look at small climbing packs or Adventure racing packs, small/light/comfy and lots are water proof

DON'T pack anything hard in the middle of the pack (inline with you spine).

Topeak MTX rack and trunk bag. Trust everyone who has it you'll love it. Fuck riding with shit on your back.

Anyone know a source for SPD pedal inserts? The deal that turns them into a platform that just snap into the cleat. I'm just now trying to ride my bike after a 1-1/2 years and neurological issues. I'm not really ready to clip in tith my shoes now for safety reasons. Probably short term till I get my stamina back.

I tried google but apparently I'm not looking for the right thing. I had a pair when I first got the bike and every bike in the shop had them so people could ride the bike without shoes etc...

I should have made a video of me getting on the bike, would have been very LOL inducing. I rode about a mile on very flat ground without killing myself tho.

Thanks, those are the type of things I was looking for. If we had a decent bike shop I could probably pick them up for free. Like I said the shop I bought it at they had them on every bike so you could walk in and ride them without having your shoes with you.

It's going to take a while. I haven't done more than walk around the house for 1-1/2 years. I didn't lose much strength but have zero stamina lol.

I started to say I felt like an old man, but I see old men riding with more stamina.
