uh. i mean, but they're not?

SWTOR for example. if you don't understand what they are doing, it seems INCREDIBLY terrible. but if you sub for like, 2 or 3 months, you get enough coins back to unlock everything you need forever. that's bioware.

EA comes up with nickel and diming their customer base into the ground.

You may have missed this.

"On 13 September 2016, EA announced the formation of EA Worldwide Studios, which would consist of the BioWare Studios, EA Mobile, and Maxis"

BioWare is EA. BioWare doesn’t have autonomy in the development process. All decisions are made by EA. BioWare is kept in name due to brand loyalty. That’s it.

EA has absolute full control.

There is no BioWare.

Like predicted by almost everyone here since the game reveal, this is gonna trainwreck so hard. Wake up devs, this game mode / style is boring as fuck. Calling it right now, division 2 will be the same yawn fest.

Pc gaming is so shitty right now.

I don't think the game style is shitty - I think it has HUGE potential - but it is being lead by Bungie, Ubi, and EA - who all have their heads up their asses and they have no idea how to properly design a game such as this, while thinking the RNG 5000 Device and Emotes provide all the value the games need. It's like knowing the MMOFPS market won't get off the ground because SOE was in charge of the damn thing.

Two entire genre's possibly aborted before take off because the people running the show are all inept.'

Good thing for us is at least with this title we don't have to pay launch price to verify if it sucks or not, we just pay $4.99 and play 10 hours or $14.99 and play for a month and kiss it's ass goodbye as we itched our curiosity.

With Division 2, I'll just rent the thing.

Back in the day, there was a scant few studios that I steered clear of. Nowadays, there's a scant few studios that I'm willing to pay full-price for their products.

I might give these guys $10.

"Buy a box once" gaming is done. I think we all know it, but let me share something that blew my mind. A friend of mine has insider info, I guess not really "insider info" but something that I doubt many people realized.

Think about how huge GTA5 is/was. It made all that money, right?
Now, think about how fucking shitty GTA5 online is. Do you realize that GTA5 online makes the same amount of money as the GTA5 box sales each year? Every year GTA5 online makes as much as GTA5 did in box sales. Each. Year.

I sure as hell didn't realize it made THAT much money. It's a horrible "game" too. I think I've put in maybe 5 hours of GTA5 online before I'd had enough. I played the modded GTA Online on PC more than I played their actual real multiplayer offering. Yet it fucking prints money.

That's unfortunately the future.

The game is made for teenagers not grumpy old men like you or I. I know my 17 yr old plays the shit out of GTA5 with all his buddies. He aslo buys the GTA bucks too. I know he asks me for my card all the time after doing chores and shit.

And why do companies need to make all this money?

Answer, they don't. Sure, from a business perspective... But therein lies the problem. It turns every fucking gamer into an armchair business person.

Out of the list of "two things didn't go together", I would say that playing games for fun and business would be right there at nearly the top of that list.

Come on, companies exist to make money. I also wish that game companies were all nice and just gave us free games because they love us and they love making games.

Capitalism, my bro. Because of it we have literally 100 games at any given time to play, but along with that we have to pay for them.

This. The “games shud b free and no
Micro transactions” is what resulted from the easy piracy/free media generation.

Game companies want ROI. Shareholders want ROI. Welcome to the real world, comrade.

The whole "it's gaming and entertainment and therefore it should be a less profit-driven industry" is retarded. I'm not at all making excuses for publishers/studios that make incredibly poor financial decisions in games because there are a lot of them, but I am not going to begrudge the bean-counters for trying to find ways to make more money from their games as long as I get the expected product with the basic box sale.

Something else that many people fail to consider is how ridiculous gaming development budgets have gotten. They're insane. Every year hundreds of games are released and only a few dozen do well, with half of those couple dozen doing very well. A lot of games actually lose money. Game development is similar to the movie industry insofar that some studios crank out a lot of games in hopes that they get that hit that funds the studio and offsets the losses from their massive failures.

Game companies attempting to monetize every facet of their product is capitalism, but potential customers complaining about it and boycotting the product for the same reason is not. Got it.

And 95% of the time that's the publisher/developers fault.

I don't care about Microtransctions for Cosmetics - but when full priced games come out as shit with shit content and less content than a free to play game like Warframe at launch? They can kiss my ass (And my money) Goodbye. And in no way shape or form should anyone feel like that is a wrong opinion to have unless they are an entitled developer who can't take the criticism of their suck as to why their shit doesn't sell.

Damn right. We dictate the market. Oh and the cry for me Argentina on that last post was hilarious. The companies have made money for decades - and they made bank when they were selling games at 49 and providing free maps and free game modes. Cry me a river with that shit. Costs have gone up? Yes. Know why? Shit producers, people cannot stay on task, overruns, and 5 start stops with 453 committee meetings on every single damn aspect of what is going into the game.

That's 80% why game development is more expensive. Incompetence.

Next up: "But what about Art assets!" when most sequels in AAA reskin heavily and those art assets are cheap compared to original creation in 2013 - the 1st time out of 5 they were leveraged across a dev house for an entire spectrum of their library.

Who said you cant boycott? Shit, look at SW Battlefront 2... Masses pretty much boycotted that game because of the loot boxes. Im sure many will boycott this game because of EA. All of us make choices and vote with or wallets where our gaming money goes to.

But lets not kid ourselves here. From a pure entertainment value, games, especially mmos that you play for hundreds of hours, and bitch because it cost you more than $60? Because they have a cash shop?

For example I look at Destiny 2, a game I currently play and have been for a while, I have almost 800 hours into this game so far, and paid some $130-$150 so far for game plus exp packs.

Thats .18c per hour. Look at how much one spends on cable TV, or just going out for a few beers and see a band.

Now granted not all of us play games like I do, religiously or whatever, but still, gaming as it stands, even if you do spend money in the cash shops are great entertainmnet value, especially the mmo, or just multiplayer or whatever.

Who's bitching about paying more than $60?

I would have paid $100 for Witcher3 or Horizon. The micro transactions piss me off for largely the same reasons I don't watch anything on Hulu - the commercials fuck with immersion and I'm a tender little snowflake that rages when people are shoving commercials in my face. I don't want my game to be a marketplace.

Or, go ahead and make the game a market place and install the base as free to play. (Warframe)

We all know EA scrapped all the cool looking gear to sell on the shop too. Now that's right on the fence because as long as people can still find cool shit in the game it's fun and rewarding. But when you have to pay extra for that * IF * they make everything found loot wise mundane as hell, that is an entirely new issue as well.

They can do whatever the hell they want if it's a FTP game, in my opinion. Edit - I mean, they can do whatever the hell they want either way, but I don't have any complaints about companies that do it in FTP games.
