Seems like a shit review, lol. The reviewer apparently wanted a proper RPG, with loot tacked on, but got a proper looter shooter with an RPG tacked on, and their disappointment is somehow BioWare's fault. They apparently don't even know you can solo contracts / missions if you want.

I'm seeing people complain about the Tomb missions, and at first I thought they sucked, but after playing the game awhile now (like most people have not, especially reviewers), all those trials you needed to complete are also Feats you earn while simply playing the game. All those medals you see after you leave an activity? Tomb trials. BioWare just handled the introduction of that quest badly.

When I got to that mission the only thing I was missing were the treasure chests. Normal gameplay got me past the rest.

I think one aspect that is very lacking is the lure of a looter game and using techniques to hook players. Diablo 3 learned to give guaranteed legendaries. They could have hooked much more people in the 10 hour trial this way. Rarity is significantly biased towards level and my first mastercraft drop wasn't until lvl 26... They need to hand out some mastercrafts early on to give players a taste of what potential there is.

Give a useable master craft in the first 3 hours.
Give a useable mastercraft meant for an alternate javalin to give the player some incentive and excitement to try a new javalin.
Give an unusable mastercraft due to level restrictions (not part of their system afik) at 7-9 hours to give some excitement to work towards and buy the game.

Let they player be OP for a bit but make them out level them so they are useless later. The key is giving these bursts of excitement which I think the game lacks.

At level 15,20,25 ish I would give a guaranteed mastercraft for a weapon type the player has been avoiding. Give some incentive for them to break out of their comfort zone and try something new. Maybe it sucks and is short lived but maybe it helps the player find something new and enjoyable.

Every single weapon has a semi interesting mastercraft version but it appears they are saving these all for end game only. I think the uniqueness/abilities offered on these could be improved but that's pointless if they aren't being handed out while people are leveling up and forming an opinion on the game.

I suspect after 7 years of development that Senior QA/Testers that were still sticking around were sick of normal progression and where making insta lvl 30 characters and based things off end game progression and missed out on luring new players into the game.

Treasure chest part I got done not even knowing soloing the world events plus the rare chests you stumble upon in free play. My difficulty cam in rezzing people, but i played normal mode. Fianlly got that done by rezzing some NPCs in the wild, lol. Now im doing more hard shit and yeah, there is more people dying.

My first masterwork was at lv12 or some shit, I got a masterworked scout.

But I am underwhelmed by loot in his game. It seems like only a few guns in each class that are basically same name different rareness and perks. Same with all the other shit. No really unique shit that I have seen so far.

Masterwork weapons have kinda changed the way I play. I have a pistol that does a shit ton of damage at point blank range and a sniper rifle that does 40% extra damage while hovering. Masterworks should have been given out at earlier stages. There needs to be a way to reroll random stats on items.

This pretty much sums up the state of the game:

He is no different than other youtube reviewers, points valid issues, rages about silly shit. Yet the issues he goes on about are present in practically every game, day one bugs, not enough content, boring content, etc. Nothing special to Anthem, its just one more game released in a bad way and a bad state. We must be united in our disapproval of this aspect of modern gaming and reject it! Wait, no I'll buy it anyway. These are as bad as the white knights.

They just posted some day one patch notes that will go live on the 22nd

High level fixes

Improved loading times
Fixed many infinite loading screens
Fixed multiple challenges not tracking properly
A number of issues have been fixed that were causing players to disconnect or crash
Weapons and gear now have numbers present for modifiers
General Fixes and Improvements

Loot Reveal and Expedition Summary now correctly play during the end of expedition screen.
The gather party mechanic has been made more lenient in a number of situations
At the end of expedition screen players will no longer get stuck on "Recording Victories" or "Skipping All".
Game no longer hangs in Javelin menu when unlocking the second, third or fourth javelin
During the mission “What Freelancers Do” dying after killing Junkmaw & freeing Arcanists leaves you unable to progress, this has been fixed
Challenges now unlock for players at the correct levels
Fixed some camera issues during cutscenes
Legendary Contracts can now be accepted from the Social Hub contract board
Some enemies have had their shield values decreased
Loot now properly drops for players who are downed
The texture quality on the NPC Prospero has been improved
Final boss of strongholds now drop loot instead of only being shown on the end of expedition screen
Fixed the time outs on echoes and relics to prevent griefing and to handle disconnections properly
Players can no longer fall through the floor during the 3rd trial in the Fortress of Dawn
Completing the tutorial expedition will now show the correct Ranger appearance
After disconnecting, rejoining an expedition will now place you back into a squad if you were in one previously
Corrected an issue where players could not interact with each other in the launch bay in certain circumstances
Corrected an issue during the Mission "Bad Deal" where outlaws won't spawn, blocking progress
The start of expedition screen has been improved
Addressed a variety of situations where killing enemies does not properly progress world events
Opening a chest now increments Tomb of the Legionnaire progress for all squad members present
Scar snipers can no longer shoot through Storm Shield
Corrected an issue where players would get stuck on the end of expedition screen in some situations
Players will no longer get disconnected if joining the "Finding Old Friends" mission while the cinematic is playing
Addressed a number of situations where players can get stuck on the environment in the launch bay
Increased the damage of the electric status effect
Corrected an issue where the Shield of Dawn could be crafted with less materials then intended in some situations
The Platinum Mission feat now grants completion as intended

Strongholds

Fixed an issue that would cause a Stronghold server crash after defeating the last boss
Temple of Scar - Players can no longer get stuck in the mined tunnel in the explosives room
Temple of Scar - Players can no longer be blocked from entering the explosives room due to fog wall
Fixed Tyrant Mine so people that join the stronghold in-progress do not end up locked away from their team
Adjusted lighting in Tyrant Mine underwater section to make it easier to navigate to the exit
The Swarm Tyrant will no longer get stuck in the side cave entrances in some situations
Corrected an issue where players would spawn into different areas of the Tyrant Mine in certain situations
Gear and Weapons

After having 1st pilot unlock suit after tutorials, creating a new pilot and going to forge no longer causes load screen hang
Ice damage bonuses are now correctly applied on ice gear
Suit-wide bonuses from inscription are now functioning properly
Players can no longer salvage equipped items
Javelin specific gear and/or weapons are no longer able to be used on javelins they aren't intended for
Corrected an issue where in some circumstances Masterwork Components do not have any inscriptions
The Endless Siege Masterwork Autocannon no longer displays a damage increase of 0% in its tooltip
Javelins

The Colossus javelin is now able to activate its shield more quickly after using an ability or firing a weapon
The Storm javelin now reacts to getting hit when its shields are up
Fixed an exploit that allowed the Storm's ultimate attack to be used more times than intended
The Colossus javelin can now shield and revive at the same time
Interceptor Combo Aura has been increased in power and now has a damage over time component
Crafting

Non-Masterwork materials purchased from the crafting store now show as their proper rarity instead of incorrectly showing as Masterwork
Controls

Additional Mouse and Keyboard control improvements have been made
UI

Some conversations were not popping up the reputation points post conversation completion, this has been fixed
The squad screen now displays the correct information for each player
Fixed a number of issues where subtitles will no longer get stuck on the screen after dialogue has finished as often
Settings should no longer reset upon exiting and restarting the game on Xbox One
Motion blur can now correctly be turned off
The Electric Status Effect now shows scaled damage properly
An option has been added to hide the Squad Member HUD
The edge of the compass will now pulse to indicate enemy locations
A notification has been added in Fort Tarsis if a player's vault is at the cap of 250 items
On the "Repair the Strider" step of "A Cry for Help" the search radar has been adjusted to correctly lead the player to all 4 tools
Primer and Detonator icons have been added to all Interceptor gear
Corrected a user interface issue where a player’s ultimate would show as available when it isn't

I feel like I played a lot this weekend and I'm only level 18. Looking forward to yellow and orange drops, lol.

Had some brutal disconnects this afternoon, need to end my session more often when in free play to mitigate that bullshit until it's more reliable.

Thankfully a couple of other crashes/disconnects let me rejoin my session.

I mean the core of the game is good if they can add enough content. Also add more loot. As it stands though, there just isnt enough content. They need a raid or two and way more strongholds.

No more easy Masterworks / Legendaries from Freeplay open world chests. Missed out on the gravy by a few hours. I think GM1 will be a bit overpowered for people who weren't able to farm chests, at least PUG groups. The adjustment to mob Shields cannot come fast enough.

Trying to finish up the Ranger Gear 1 challenge, but I need a skill I do not have (never used it, so always salvaged it, and never knew I would need it). Kinda wish you could buy a Common version of all skills rather than trust in RNG to drop it for you.

Honestly that shit was boring as fuck. I saw some steamers do this for hours on end (no I didnt watch for hours).

Part of the fun for these games is doing shit and having one drop, not doing some chest runs over and over. Im glad they nerfed that shit. If you complete your achievements you can craft masterwork weapons and other shit.

If you do the strongholds on hard, they drop legendary and masterwork. I saw Gladd do this last night in his stream. They ran a stronghold like 5-6 times and the shit was dropping at a good clip. But thats only weapons though I think.

And yeah, the mob shields are ridiculous, before you even get a chance to reload they are full again.

The jump from Epic (2.8k) armour to Masterwork (10.2k) is insane.

fwiw, all of my masterworks/legendaries have been from Hard/GM1 contracts, missions, strongholds and quickplay. Stack the shit out of the +luck stat until you've got the full suite, imho.

Weird, i logged in this morning and the colors just seemed to "pop" more. I've not changed any settings but the game just looks more vibrant. Did they just enable HDR?

Pretty sure HDR was already enabled, and you can't just take a screenshot of HDR video anyway. It's display panel tech.

Very few PC monitors are actually capable of anything close to what a good TV can do with HDR video anyway. My ultrawide claims "HDR" but doesn't have the nits required to meet any real HDR standard, and that's typical of all but the newest high end PC panels.

Yeah my monitor does HDR as well - but i guess the patch they did recently to address the farming did something with my colors - Prior to this i never even noticed the HDR enabled like i do in D2.

Thats another thing that bothers me about this game. Such a huge freeplay area and yet only 4 people allowed into a lobby? What kind of shit is this? Must be a console thing. I would rather have hidden invisible zones like Destiny has and more people allowed per instance. I think destiny allows 9? But thats PER area, which earth in destiny has what? Like 5-6? Still all seamless.

I open up the map in freeplay and see the other 3 players like 50 fucking miles from me across the entire world. There is no way you can complete these events in GM1 or GM2 unless you send in a stacked team if they kicked my ass while leveling in normal modes, especially the ones that send in like 2-3 legendary shielded mobs that replensh their shields while you reload or on CD timer. I had better luck witht he heavy which just brute strength and HPed then all to victory.

Its just not really well thought out. I guess the best way to do freeplay solo is to just follow some schleps around and hope they do some PEs?
