It'll probably just be everything that law enforcement seizes.

Which means LE is going to be incentivized to seize more digital assets from more people.

This is not the win you think it is.

The EO is a win, and a big one, for crypto, but it's not a National Reserve. Any stockpile or reserve or help the Trump admin gives crypto is great, but imo it's all gravy. All crypto honestly needed was a little regulatory clarity and for the SEC to get out of its way and let the market do its thing. Crypto made it as far as it has without Trump and despite rampant cockblocking from the SEC. All it really needed was for the roadblocks to be removed, and it's getting a lot more than that already.

Edit: for the record, I think we WILL see some buying at some point- who knows what and how much. But, again, this is just bonus imo.

You're just confirming what I just said.

Everything digital asset the government currently has is one seized by law enforcement.

This will just make the government want to seize even more crypto.

oh, and where did Trump state that citizens are prohibited from hoarding crypto? Or are you just a sore disingenous loser cos the tech has outrun your aging dinosaur coin?

I mean it doesnt because it doesnt have to, but I get where Mist is coming from

Civil Forfeiture already targets crytpo since 2022 when the Digital Assets Coordinators was formed. Most of the current stockpile is what they sized after Binance made a big whoops. However as far as I can tell its limited to Digital crimes. The fear is with a "national stockpile" it could incentivize forfeiture of crytpo in any crime.

I was answering this. There is in fact a historical context to this.

If you think Bitcoin is a "dinosaur coin" then by all means go buy whatever garbage you think is on the leading edge. The only thing disingenuous in this interaction is the idea that any of that trash has real value outside of Bitcoin. If you don't understand that, you will eventually. You'll be poorer, but you'll figure it out.

If you have cold wallet bitcoin, how could they “civil forfeiture“ bitcoin?

I can think of only two ways:
  1. torture you until you reveal private key
  2. if bitcoin is a real thing they could punish any wallet which accepts bitcoin from your wallet address, making it so no one will do business with you

If they made holding Bitcoin illegal 99% of people are going to give it up without a fight. See EO 6102 linked above. You have to remember unless you went out of your way to buy KYC-free they have a record of how much you own. This is why buying KYC-free is such a good idea if this attack vector is one you're concerned with. Unfortunately KYC-free is quite difficult to do since its you know, illegal.

No indication anywhere that they are planning on making it illegal to hold bitcoin. In fact, every bit of evidence points to the opposite- that the new admin wants to encourage growth/proliferation of the crypto ecosystem within the US.

There are a lot of other much more realistic concerns for you guys to be worried about, if you are dying to be paranoid about something.
